4 Samsung SSD drives \ clean install

I have 3 500GB Samsung Evo 860 drives. 1 Evo 860 1 TB. I wiped the 3 500s. They were used 1x to clone existing data on drives (not OS). I wiped them and deleted the partitions. With a Win 10 v1903 iso I installed to one of these. I made it through the disc process and set up. PC rebooted into Windows. Crashed a minute or so 5x in a row. Different rason every time. I tried this with all 3 of these drives. Same result every time. The 1TB is new. I was able to get it installed, running, and updated to the full 1903, then 1909, where I want to live (doing recording studio).. But, I had another drive in my rig afterward. I was going to make it GPT like the new OS. Well, dip shit converted the OS to GPT and lost the install. Now it won't work in the exact manner the other 3 drives won't.

Totally at a loss for how to save $500 worth of drives from the crapper.

I know RAM to be good in running memtest 4 passes zero errors. I have a old backup 500GB 850 with 1803 on it that runs without error. I'm on it right now.

Not sure where I should have posted this, as it's an all encompassing crapathon. Please advise. Thanks, Shep

Did you make the ISO with Media Creation Tool from Microsoft?

    Confused by this passage:

"But, I had another drive in my rig afterward. I was going to make it GPT like the new OS. Well, dip shit converted the OS to GPT and lost the install."

I read that to mean "I was going to make the "another drive" GPT like the new OS, but I converted the OS to GPT and lost the install".

Before the comma implies the OS was GPT. After the comma implies it wasn't.

    Clarify?

Hi, Thanks for chiming in. It is as you presumed. New OS drive was GPT from the clean install. I was gonna clone it to a drive that was mbr, and had a senior screw up. I got the iso from Jim at StudioCat (my original DAW builder) and burned it to dvd with imgburn.

The gold standard method for a clean install is to use Media Creation Tool direct from Microsoft....and to use a USB stick rather than a DVD. No need for ImgBurn.

If you get that clean install going on drive A and want to move it to drive B, the recommended method is imaging, although cloning can work. What app are you using to clone?

But if I got the installation media from Microsoft direct via Media Creation Tool, I'd try to clean install directly onto my preferred drive....no clone, no image.

To restore the SSDs to completely blank the commands are:

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <-replace # with the actual number for the drive you want to erase
clean <- this will complete erase the disk selected above
    convert mbr

then you can repeat at select disk # again if you want to do more than 1 drive then

exit when you are done. You can get to a command prompt to do this easily by booting from the Windows 10 installation USB flash drive and at the first setup screen press Shift + F10. You might have to press Shift + Fn + F10 depending on the keyboard.

If you want the newest build, correct? I do not. I am a recording studio. I need a build that is much more supported by the tools I use. 1903 or 1909 at the latest. That rules out Media Creation Tool because all I can get from it is the current 20H2 correct?

So where am I to go from here to accomplish my business needs, please? Thanks much for the info and your time, sir!

Here is a .bat file that will get the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft for any version from 1507 up to 2009 (20H2):
    MediaCreationTool - Pastebin.com

Use the download button to get it.

When the MCT is running, make sure to uncheck the box for "Use the recommended options for this PC" and then in the Edition drop down box, change the selection to Home | Pro | Edu.
