    You tested the video card by connecting it to an external monitor because it did not displayed any image on the screen fault points to the video card.

    That was a good post to inspire!

    1. Its an old laptop. So, try to run it without battery. Shut down & take out the laptop battery. Keep the AC power adapter connected & turned on. Then try to enter BIOS.

    2. Try to make a Power Reset but keep the power button pressed for about 1:30 minutes & Then try to start PC without the battery & in the BIOS. ( Keep the Battery out AND AC Adapter connected & switched on. )

I stopped using the desktop in Win8.1 (apart from those apps that still open it to start) With Win10 , the desktop appears automatically on start up and also if you close an app. This always needs an extra keystroke to get back to the start...
