Disappearing bluetooth plus device manager not working

    Hi there.
I'd appreciate some help with my bluetooth and Device Manager problem.
My Bluetooth icon only shows in Device Manager under 'hidden devices' which is simple enough. However, none of the drop down menus in Device Manager work.
In Services, Bluetooth support services will not change to 'automatic' but receive 87 message of incorrect parameters.
In one of the forums I found some fixes for the bluetooth issue which did not work, apart from a 'clean boot' which I did and which worked for that day.
I thought the problem of my Bluetooth connection was fixed. However, next day when I turned the laptop on, the Bluetooth turn on button was gone again. I tried two more clean boots but that did not solve the problem again. My idea had been to get correct then do a system restore to save it. Too late. I should have done that the first time.
I can't correct any errors through Device Manager as its dropdowns don't work. Just flash then back to the list.
The other problem is that troubleshooters don't seem to do anything.
There is a yellow triangle which showed up somewhere in my ramblings several times, can't remember how but it seemed to indicate that my desktop P6ADKQJ had an error. I did write that down. My Windows Version: 2004 OS Build 19041.508
I've spent so many hours of so many days on this that my brain is rebelling.
I do have a Windows 10 original installation USB (My Windows Version: 2004 OS Build 19041.508) and I've found information that I may be able to use this to restore original settings without losing my personal files. I'm a bit worried about using this as I'm concerned I may accidentally do it wrong and delete my files.
    Any ideas would be welcome.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hello @Mae West,

Can you please perform the following [ this checks for ANY Problem Device Errors ] . . .

[1] Goto this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Goto the heading Find ANY Problem Devices . . .
[3] Download and Run the .bat file [ Find_ANY_Problem_Devices.bat ].

If there are ANY errors it will create a Prob_Devices.txt file on the Desktop!

[4] Upload the results => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums if ANY problems found.

    I hope this helps!

    Tried the BAT

    Hi Paul.

Thanks for that. I ran it as directed and it seemed to show no problems. I restarted but all the problems are still there and I still have no Bluetooth icon.
I created the file on the desktop as directed but I see it is a very complicated matter to upload it and I don't use any of those platforms so I will have to work on it later and see how to do it.

    Thanks again for trying.

If there were NO problems a file is NOT created.
If you have a file on the Desktop then there must have been problems.
You can just copy the contents of the file into your post if that will be easier for you.

    I hope this helps!

    Empty file

You're right, Paul. Just checked that file and it's empty. Nothing there at all.
However, I still have no Bluetooth icon to turn it on and Device Manager still doesn't have any dropdown menus.

    - - - Updated - - -

Just opened Settings and my Bluetooth on/off switch has reappeared! I haven't turned the laptop on or off. I haven't done anything since my earlier message.
    What does this mean?
Just checked Device Manager and the dropdowns still don't appear. The Bluetooth icon is now there without going to hidden devices, but its dropdown still leads to nowhere. The other difference since running the BAT file is that the Universal Serial Bus list has now disappeared. It was showing before but now it's empty, like other dropdowns.
I'm goint to do a restore point now and hope that may hold my Bluetooth on/off but the other issues still are not resolved.
    Thanks for reading.

It is very strange indeed that there was a file there at all. That batch file has been run hundreds of times by members, none of which ever had an empty file when it said no problems found! Oh well, I will have to look into that.

I can assure you that running the batch file would not of had any affect on your computer.

Yes, a restore point might correct things. Let us know how you get on.

[1] Have you installed any new programs or hardware recently?
[2] Have you done any Windows, Software, or Driver updates recently?
[3] Have you got a recent System Image?

    I hope this helps!

Disappearing Bluetooth plus Device Manager not working

Exactly, Paul. I don't have a system image. The most recent things I've done are: update my VPN - already using it for two years. Firefox wanted to do a big update. Windows 10 did an update. Bought Bluetooth headphones which worked fine at first but then stopped working and the icon disappeared, with accompanying error messages and troubleshooting failing to find problems.

I'm not really sure which things happened first. The Device Manager hasn't worked for months. Bluetooth used to be there as an option but I never used it before a fortnight ago. Right now it's there. Came on spontaneously. I've made a restore point in case it goes off again.

Other thing that's happening is that the system hangs sometimes when the headphones are failing. Nothing works at all. Have to switch off entirely and start again.

The headphones are from ConnectIT. I bought them in Prague and they worked fine with this laptop before I came back here.
