Xbox One Controller Not Staying Connected to Bluetooth

I have two devices that I connect to my bluetooth on my PC: My headphones and my Xbox One controller. My headphones connect fine and stay connected, but my controller keeps disconnecting from my PC during gameplay. I've tried moving the dongle from a 3.0 USB port to a 2.0 but that didn't work. The dongle is plugged into the front of my PC, so I'm not out of range from the dongle. I know that with an old bluetooth driver that I had on a previous computer had a power management section that allowed me to prevent Microsoft from turning off the device, but with the new driver, I don't have that option. I'm using Broadcom BCM20702 Bluetooth 4.0 USB Device version 12.0.1.659, which is pretty old. I have tried updating the driver, but that seemed to make things worse. I'm going to update the driver again from Microsoft Catalog, but any other advice is welcome.

Have you checked to see if you have the latest firmware for the controllers?

I bought a couple Xbox One wireless controllers a couple months ago. They had connection problems also until I updated the firmware.

Reinstalled Windows to fix any registry issues that I broke with the Bluetooth driver--though I'm pretty sure it didn't fix anything because I sign in with a Microsoft account--then I purchased a Microsoft Xbox Wireless adapter because a coworker told me that an Xbox One controller on Bluetooth is just bad and will not work well. Thank you all for letting me vent my issues. You have helped out more than you know.

Good luck with that. Post back here when you have a chance to see if the Microsoft Xbox Wireless adapter makes any difference. If you still have problems then maybe the Xbox One controller is faulty.

The controllers I have been working OK so far using Bluetooth. If I ever have problems I may try one of the Microsoft Xbox Wireless adapters.

Thank you! The adapter should be here early next week; I'll post my results to you. As long as the controller doesn't disconnect on me during a boss fight, then I'll give it a 5 out of 5.
