Yes, the driver is an .exe file. I've just tried it using Windows 7 compatibility mode and no joy I'm afraid. Thanks :)

    Thanks a lot, Ben.

Hi Ben, I'm sorry to hear that your grief continues. I've just read your entire thread again, and I just have to wonder about the only fix you described in your original post. We require the power portion working first before the OS & drivers.

Do you have an image or any backup of win7 or win8 for this laptop? I believe you mentioned it functioned with the older OS. Before spending much more time you might consider loading the older OS to see if the laptop still functions at all.
From what you're describing, I suspect it may not work with the older OS either.

The issue you've described sounds more power/hardware related than OS, however; the next line is a quote from Bree.

"IME a benchmark of at least 1000 is needed to run W10 at any sort of usable speed." post #211

You might scan this thread for more info.

Let's run Win10 on really really old hardware

AMD Athlon II P360 Benchmark is 746.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, really appreciated. I feel like I've nearly exhausted all options for Windows 10 now, so it looks like I'll be installing Windows 8.1 again. This seemed to work fine with sleep, so hopefully this can be a compromise solution. I'll let you know how it goes with Windows 8.1.

    Cheers, Ben.

Hi Ben, you're very welcome, I'm sorry we weren't successful with your laptop. If you find the time, you might browse that link I posted above and verify if anyone else has had success using a comparable PC.

And yes, I would appreciate knowing if it does function properly with win8. All the best,

    Michael

    Hi,

Just to let you know that it works well under Windows 8.1 Pro, including the sleep functionality. My bet is it was an issue with the AMD display driver's compatibility with Windows 10. Thanks for everyone's help, much appreciated.

    All the best,
    Ben
