Webcam not working and seemingly causing BSODs

I have a Lenovo Yoga 710-14IKB. I tried opening the Camera app and I got, alternately flashing, the message "0xA00F244<NoCamerasAreAttached>" and another message which didn't display long enough for me to read the whole thing, but which included the words "<ActiveCamerasAreUnplugged>". I also noticed that the camera light kept blinking in time to the flashing messages.

I tried resetting the camera app, and then I tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help. I also tried opening Skype and found that that couldn't access the camera either. And Lenovo Vantage tells me "Camera is in use or loading failed."

I was using Windows 10 1903 and found that an upgrade was finally available to 1909, so I installed that, but it didn't change the behaviour.

After leaving the Camera app running for a few minutes I got a BSOD with the message SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. This happened twice. I then left the computer running for a while without the Camera app open and didn't encounter another BSOD.

I then tried rolling back the camera driver (EasyCamera: Azureware/Chicony/Liteon) in Device Manager to the previous version, but that didn't work. So I went back to the latest version, but it's still not working.

What is wrong with my camera?

    Has camera ever worked?

If you enter BIOS is camera listed and is it enabled?

In Privacy settings is Camera on and have you allowed any apps access to it?

Yes the camera used to work not too long ago. I know it worked on the 26 October because I have a video in my camera roll that I shot then. The camera is not mentioned in the BIOS settings. According to the icon that flashes on the screen when I press the camera hotkey, it is enabled. And according to the Lenovo Vantage app camera privacy is disabled, so it should work for all apps.

I also tried completely deleting the driver, rebooting, reinstalling the driver, and rebooting, but that hasn't worked.

EDIT: And I have just checked in the Windows privacy settings that Lenovo Vantage, Camera, and Skype all have permission to use the camera.

Most likely third party software. Post the BSOD info.

Can I ask where you are getting driver from.

I would recommend the Lenovo site even if it is older than current driver.

If you post BSOD info please post in the BSOD section as that is where BSOD members work from. They might see it here.

I've created a separate thread for the BSOD at BSOD related to webcam malfunction.

I got the most recent driver direct from Lenovo using their automated update. I also posted about this problem on their forum where one of the forum staff gave me a link to download another version of the driver, but that didn't work either.

I've finally found the answer. It is a hardware issue. I pressed the top of the lid on either side of the camera between my thumb and finger and the camera started working. The camera active light is flickering a bit, so I suspect the problem will reoccur, but for now I have a steady video stream.

Thanks very much for your help, everyone!

Unfortunately it is not a long-lasting fix, and having looked at the repair manual, the camera is last on the list of FRUs in order of extraction, meaning that to fix it myself I will have to completely take the computer apart. The risk of not managing to put it together again correctly looks too great, so I think I'll need to take it to a pro.

Or just buy an external camera.

Not sure how often you use, will be cheaper than fixing internal and better quality.
