Canon PIXMA MX472 All-in-One - Scanner did not install

I installed Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit (version 1909; OS Build 18363.592) on my Dell XPS 8900 desktop at the first of the year. I had some trouble installing the printer but it finally did get itself installed. The trouble I had was that it didn't want to install with USB only but I thought I finally got it to do that. The wifi light was on after I completed the install (it may have been on before that too), so I went into settings on the machine itself to turn it off. The printer has worked fine ever since but when I went to scan something the other day, I found I had no scanner!

When I go to Devices and Printers in the old-fashioned Control Panel app, I see the following:
    Canon MX470 series FAX
    Fax
    Microsoft Print to PDF
    Microsoft XPS Document Writer
    OneNote
    SendTo OneNote 16

So it looks like the only thing recognized as Canon was the Fax! And there is no scanner at all!

The filename for the Canon installer/driver I used was mp68-win-mx470-1_02-ea33_3
I went to the Canon USA website and found two other drivers:
    win-mx470-1_1-acd.exe
    and
    mp68-win-mx470-1_02-ea33_3.exe

So now I am totally confused. What's the difference between the two?

Should I uninstall and reinstall the drivers from Canon for the PIXMA MX472?
I have Revo Uninstaller. Should I use that if I uninstall?
Which drivers should I install if I uninstall?
Is there another way to get the computer to recognize that the printer is also a scanner?

Thank you in advance to anyone who can offer suggestions for what to do next!

Hi, this appears to be the genuine Canon driver page

    https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/p...vers_downloads

    Canon PIXMA MX472 All-in-One - Scanner did not install-1.png

Note the 'Have a question?' box bottom left. If you are unsure as to which driver is which, that may be an option, or there's the Canon Community:
    Printer - Canon Community
    and this:
Canon Printer Technical Support | Customer Support Forum

Do you see a scanner entry in the Device Manager? E.g. here:
    Canon PIXMA MX472 All-in-One - Scanner did not install-1.png
(Ignore the fact mine has a yellow triangle - there's no Win 10 driver for it...)

What O/S did you last have it working with? Have you ever had it working with Win 10?

There may be something here, but I suspect it's rather trivial:
Canon : PIXMA Manuals : MX470 series : Problems with Scanning

Scanning fails with MX472 and Windows 10 - Canon Community

    More questions

Thank you for your reply, dalchina!

I suppose I should uninstall the printer first, and then install the new drivers, right?

There are a ton of Canon drivers on my machine - including the driver for the scanner!
I am using Revo uninstaller. Should I uninstall everything Canon?

    Answer to your question -
No, there is not even an entry for "Other Devices" in Device Manager.
The printer and the FAX both show up in the Printers entry though.

I will wait for a reply to my last questions about what I need to uninstall, if anything, before proceeding.

Thank you again for your reply!
I've been very busy with work since I posted this question so it's taken me a couple of days to get back, unfortunately.

    Hi, again:
What O/S did you last have it working with? Have you ever had it working with Win 10?

You would be better advised to ask the Canon community- otherwise you're hoping someone here uses the same device and spots your post. See the link I posted.

There should be no need to uninstall other devices and drivers- but who knows? Before taking such action it would be better to be sure this is known to work with your Win 10 build.

Yes, by all means try uninstalling the existing printer driver and choosing to delete the driver, then specifically installing any new driver.

    I find no reference to
    PIXMA MX472 1909
    for example.

Post a screenshot of Device Manager to see and help you. Yes, uninstall anything Canon related, restart and install the new driver.

Thank you for the input. It seems like nothing is working. I tried posting a screenshot but it won't paste onto this reply box! That is a good idea to go to the Canon Community forums, so I will try that. I have only had Windows 10 installed since the first of the year. I don't think I've tried to use the scanner until it failed this time, prompting me to register with TenForums. The last time it worked was with Windows 7. If I find a solution with the Canon Community, I will post it here.

I don't know if this worked or not but here it is. It looks like it's just a link.

You can simply use the icon to the left of the video/film icon above your post- tooltip 'Insert Image' and upload any image format that's accepted. No need to use an office program (docx).

It looks like there's nothing like a scanner there..
