Question about HP Twain Administration Scan

Hi. I have an Hp Envy photo 6200 series printer with Full Feature Driver and Software installed. My pc is an HP Pavilion Intel Desktop. When I open the Twain Administration user interface there is no Scan button, just Save and Cancel buttons. It's really not important to me that I can't use it but would still like to know what's going on. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Full Feature Driver and Software today and have the same result. There is a folder in C:\Windows called twain_32. Within that folder is a sub-folder which is HP ENVY photo 6200 series. Within that folder there are 3 entries which are HPScanUI.dll, hpxsTwain.ds and ScanApp. ScanApp is configuration settings. I may contact HP about this but they haven't been very helpful in the past. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have gave up on HP full software (on non professional devices) years ago. Just put the printer / scanner on network and access it via web interface - in File explorer go to network and click on HP device icon, or browse to it in your browser.

No fancy features, but get the job done..

    Mark,

I assume you have installed v44.4.2678 of the HP software.

HP have a firmware update for it [v1925A]. You can get a copy on your driver download page.

HP's print & scan doctor might be able to help you. You can get a copy on your driver download page. I have only used it once but, on that occasion, it was excellent.

I have not had much contact with HP support but they seemed okay to me. HP also have a user forum at https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

Thanks for your reply. I do have v 44.4.2678 installed. Also my firmware is updated to v 1931B. HP Print and Scan Doctor did not resolve this issue. I have made a post on the HP Printer forum about this issue.

For lack of better word, TWAIN has been depreciate since the XP vista days. There's also some questions about 64-bit support. With that see this thread... Unable to open TWAIN source

And you can also try to make heads or tails (I can't) from this Microsoft talking point on TWAIN support - TWAIN Compatibility

At the end of the day I do know TWAIN does not function like it did the XP day as I experienced TWAIN with my Nikon Scanner. Anyway imaging devices today don't use TWAIN, but instead rely on Windows WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) drivers as TWAIN is a thing of the past.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your reply and links. It is no big deal to me if I can't use it. Everything else works perfectly with the HP Scan software or the Scan To Computer from the printer interface.

The main issue is to have the TWAIN drivers and if the brand name software won't scan I've had no problem with the Windows Fax and Scan feature in Start, W section, Windows Accessories.
