    Any possibility to run Windows XP on newer motherboard

    Though this is a Windows 10 forum but if any one can help. I am running Windows 10 but for some purposes I needed XP also. I just changed my motherboard and now my Windows XP giving boot error that File "Ntoskrnl is missing". I know that this file is not missing because I am able to boot this XP hard disk on my old motherboard. It seems that this is false error and this is happening due to new motherboard.

    Is there any possibility to run XP on this new motherboard or I will have to use old motherboard only.

    one more thing, can macrium redeployment be useful in this scenario?.

    If you have 10 Pro you can run XP in a Hyper-V virtual machine. If you have Home you can run XP in something like VMWare player (I understand @jimbo45 does just that).

    As you appear to have a Macrium image of the old XP machine, you can run that directly as a VM in W10 Pro's Hyper-V using Macrium's viBoot.

    Or, in any VM, if you use Macrium to create a rescue media ISO then you can boot the VM from this and restore the Macrium image to the VM.

    Thanks. But it is too much and time consuming for me. Anyway very knowledgeable and helpful for those who are keen to try.

    I think, for me it will be better to use two PC. Windows 10 on new motherboard and XP on old motherboard.

    Thanks very much.

    That file missing is because xp can't find it check boot.ini it should be a simple matter of settings the right path to the drive it's on

    Hi there

    @sam9

    Running XP as a VM is incredibly simple and really takes so few resources the HOST will hardly know it's running -- just give it 1GB RAM and it will still fly.

    Here's XP VM on Linux Host being able to access shared files from a NAS server using VMware . No probs. I have my own Internet Gateway so not worried about XP security as I have my own Internet Proxy for machines on my line when accessing the external Internet. Will also work on Windows Hosts too

    Any possibility to run Windows XP on newer motherboard-xplan.png

    It's more than likely because the old motherboard was running either IDE drive interfaces or SATA in IDE mode and new motherboard is SATA in AHCI mode.
