Clearing the cmos / reseting the BIOS is alot easier when done with the motherboard jumper. IMHO. Providing you follow the instructions in the manual. The big thing is to make sure its fully powerd off. I make it a habbit to unplug the power supply from the wall outlet. It can't acidentally start up and the AUX supply thats used to boot it up will also be off / discharged.
That's a part of re-flashing BIOS routine, resetting to factory defaults before and after. Once it's flashed in, it's on factory defaults anyway.

And drain the capacitors after unplugging by holding in the ACPI Power Button for about 15 seconds.

Totally agree, my post was more of if your going to do it anyway, and or again, I'd use the jumper instead of taking the battery out. They don't come out as easy as people think, and can be a pain to put back in with the correct polarity etc.

Thanks. If I remember correctly, this MB has both a jumper and a CMOS reset somewhere. I'll have to dig-up or download the manual, it's been a long while since I've looked at it.

I'll definitely unplug from the wall. I don't enjoy getting zapped or even the thought of getting zapped!

Some times both should be done, clearing CMOS thru contacts or button and removing the battery for few minutes. At least that's how it's on this MB. Just using contacts doesn't clear the time and date, therefore it's not full clear.

Thanks to all who've contributed and allowing me to use y'all as sounding boards. I just pressed the Clear CMOS button on the back of my machine and it appears to have cleared the problem!

I'm not into the hardware so much these days but I should've thought to try clearing CMOS first.
