Problem with my Toshiba external drive.

Hello. I'm very sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section. Previously I have only ever posted a 'response' to a particular thread.
My problem is this. Recently I tried (and failed) to create a bootable version of Window 10 on my (blank) external 1TB Toshiba external drive. Once I realized that I had failed, I then wanted to format the drive for other use. I then noticed that somehow I had acquired an extra 'RECOVERY' drive. Please see attached screenshot.
Regardless of how many times I format the Toshiba drive......that 'RECOVERY' drive remains.
Please can any of you wise people help me get rid of it ?

How about a screenshot of Disk Management? Looks to me like H: could be a partition on one of the other drives, Disk Management should allow deleting that partition leaving unallocated space. However, more information is needed that Disk Management should help with. A question: was that drive taken from a different computer [suggested by the Label of Recovery]?

    Hi Milton

    Try this

Diskpart is an extremely powerful tool, make absolutely sure you are entering commands against the correct disk. If you action the wrong drive you will be very unhappy. The "Clean" command below wipes the entire disk, everything on disk will be deleted.

    Command Prompt(admin)
Don’t type in info in brackets.

    Diskpart
List disk (shows all storage devices)
Select disk 4 (storage disk you are targeting, this example disk 4, yours could be different.)
Clean (diskpart will remove all partitions on Selected disk 4)
    Exit
    Exit

You should be able to enter Windows Disk Management and setup your disk.

It is absolutely essential that the right disk be selected with that recovery H: drive. I used disk 4 above as an example.

I assume this recovery partition was created when you tried to create the bootable drive. If not don't use diskpart to delete it.

Ken, I wouldn't recommend unexperienced user to play with diskpart command.

Better install partition manager (like Minitool partition manager free - just pay attention to uncheck any toolbars or browsers during setup) and perform this task with the help of graphic interface.

Windows disk management would be nice start, but it can't remove recovery partitions (could be possible with external drive)

    To Caledon Ken:

The (H) RECOVERY drive was created after my failed attempt at creating a bootable Windows 10 drive.

    To Berton:

The (H) Recovery drive was created on this computer...the only one I own.

I have never heard of 'Diskpart' so I will have to take my time to study how to use it....properly.

It's not really life or death problem as I can still access and use the 'actual' Toshiba drive, it's just annoying me that surplus recovery drive refuses to go.

    To Andre Ten:
I'm not feeling too confident about this....and don't really want to fiddle with things on a computer that I don't really understand. I'm not as clever as I like to think I am (obviously)

    I like Andre's idea.

Start diskpart and list you disks, first two commands. Then exit.

Diskpart just does what it is told and some don't take much care. That is when the s^&% happens. Andre's idea is a very good one.

After dinner I connected only the Toshiba drive (I normally have 2 external drives connected to my computer most of the time). I figured with only the Toshiba connected it would make it easier for me to locate the correct drive to work on. As you can see from my screenshot, 2 drives are listed.

Disk 1 seems to be the drive I need to work on as it appears to be totally empty ?
Assuming that is the correct drive.....I should select Disk 1 and enter ?
Then enter 'clean' (no quotes) and enter ?
That's about as much as I can grasp about Diskpart at the moment. (I am 72 yrs old)
    Further advice would be appreciated.
At this stage I have done absolutely nothing with Diskpart.

Good, now use the Diskpart commands SELECT DISK, LIST PARTITION and LIST VOLUME to find out what's on each. Use these commands in this order and post a screenshot of the results.

    LIST DISK
    SELECT DISK 0
    LIST PARTITION
    SELECT DISK 1
    LIST PARTITION
    LIST VOLUME

This is what I see on my system with a (Toshiba, as it happens) usb drive plugged in. This Toshiba is Disk 1 and has two partitions.
