    Scanner Driver problem

I have a scanner which works fine in win 7 32 bit. I installed the same driver in win 10 64 bit. It installed but did not work. What is the chance of its working if I install the same driver in win 10 32 bit or if I upgrade my win 7 (where it is working) to win 10?

    Hi there

32 bit W7 drivers unlikely to work on W10 X-64.

    Alternative solution(s).

    1) Costs but cheap (39 USD) why not use vuescan - works with zillions of scanners including older ones.

VueScan Scanner Software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux

    2) Simply run your W7 system as a Virtual Machine on W10.

    Cheers

Chances to run 32bit scanner driver on Win10 64 bit are very slim. It would probably run on 32bit system, but couldn't recommend this because of limitation of memory. Run it in virtual machine, like Jimbo said

    Sam,

I think you should go to your scanner maker's website and search for the latest 32 & 64 bit drivers there. Have a look around both in their support section & in any user forums for Windows 10 advice for your model.

I have successfully used very old 32 bit drivers [XP, Vista] in 32 bit Windows 10.
I also have some very old 32 bit drivers running in 64 bit Windows 10 [USB-connected TV tuners].
    - I did not need to install any in 'compatibility mode' but would have done so if I had any problems [you can find out about that in your Windows 7 help system - Windows 10 does not have a Help system but 'compatibility mode' is the same in both].
    - You might try reinstalling that 32 bit driver in Windows 10 64 bit using 'compatibility mode' but there is no telling if it will succeed.

If, in your current failed Windows 10 installation, you right-click the scanner's entry in Device manager whilst the scanner is connected then you can try using that to update the driver.

If you are going to try upgrading your 32 bit computer to Windows 10 then make a system image beforehand. Consider using a third-party imaging utility [such as Macrium Reflect or Acronis TI] because you will need to do so in Windows 10 anyway so you might as well start getting used to one of them.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

What's the scanner model? Maybe you can get more info, if you post it.

    Sam,

[Separate aspect of the problem, separate post]

I have some 32 bit drivers successfully running in 64 bit Windows 10 [USB-connected TV tuners].
I have discovered that those same drivers fail to operate [they installed correctly] on different computers with 64 bit Windows 10.
    - The difference is that the failures have been on computers that have USB3 connectors & the failures occur whether I use those USB3 connectors or the USB2 connectors that they also have.
    - So if your scanner is USB-connected & your new computer has USB3 connectors then you might run into the same dead-end as me. I spent ages re-trying & searching online for advice but never managed to solve this problem.

What scanner? Look at the manufacturer's web site and try using the various 64 bit drivers - you might need to use the appropriate compatibility mode to install the driver.

As stated above if you are using USB3 ports with a very old scanner you may need to get into BIOS and set XHCI mode to manual or disabled (you will lose usb3 speeds however).

Hmm, I've got an Epson, 750 Pro, scanner I haven't tried in a while its USB2.
Current Photoshop Machine has Win10, 64 bit with USB2, USB3 and others. Guess I'd better make sure it runs!
    Do have VuScan installed tho.
