    Is my hard disk faulty?

I got a seagate 1 tb hard disk that i have been using in my computer. But after swapping my old motherboard with a new asus h81m-k motherboard, the hard disk no longer shows up in my bios.

Solved, it was a compatability issue with my motherboard.

Sorry what do you mean does not registered. Not available in bios, file explorer or disk management?

I would check disk management, could be all you have to do is give it a drive letter.

It doesn't show up anywhere in my bios. Also, windows says there isn't enough space on it, if i try to install windows, even though it's a 1 terabyte disk.

Interesting. If it can't be seen in BIOS I wonder how Windows is detecting any thing about drive.

I would power down and reseat connections. ( disconnect and connect. )

Sounds like you are installing windows. Was your old system booting legacy or UEFI ?

How are you trying to boot this Motherboard, legacy (MBR) or UEFI (GPT).

Is there any data on drive you need? You could wipe. To wipe

As soon as windows boots from your bootable media Shift + F10

    diskpart
    List disk
select disk 0 (I would load windows with only one drive connected, make sure 0 is the target for your install, adjust accordingly)
    clean
    convert gpt
    exit
    exit

The above WIPES the selected drive and the convert GPT sets it to be able to boot UEFI.

Only other thing I would investigate is do you need to load a driver to use hybrid sshd?

If you are not re-installing Windows then you may need to set this MB to boot the way your old device was booting. (Legacy MBR)

Windows is likely to get excited when it comes time to re-activate as this will be considered a major hardware change. Did you link your license to your Microsoft ID? Have a look at this tutorial. (If this is retail license ignore this comment)

Use Activation Troubleshooter in Windows 10

    Sorry for all the questions.

Yes, i have already tried unplugging it, and plugging it into my computer again. I don't need anything on the disk, so it can be formated if necessary. I have tried both uefi and legacy.

Okay did you "Clean" the drive with instructions above?

Did you try another port on motherboard? I assume there is no other drive connected.

Do you have a docking station that would allow you to connect drive to another computer to test?

Normally a full functioning drive that is not showing signs of errors just doesn't tank because you move it to a new motherboard. I'm going to have a look at your manual.

Edit: could you also please load the defaults into your BIOS. Then under Advance tab please ensure Sata config is set to AHCI.

Yes, i wiped the whole disk. I have tried all ports on the motherboard. For some reason, everytime i try a new port, it detects a new device, on top of the devices i already got. After testing the disk on all my ports, there's now about 8 different devices that shows up in my bios. I have tried loading the default settings as well.

Please pull your CMOS battery, wait 20 seconds, install. Enter BIOS, set date and time, make sure SATA is set to AHCI

Make sure your are booting UEFI

Boot from media and redo the shift + F10 instructions above. Then install windows using custom. (Step 10 of this Tutorial)

    Clean Install Windows 10

Then skip to Step 13. How big of a drive shows in the Window for step 13. Notice the note within step 13

I sold the harddrive, and the person i sold it to doesn't seem to have any problems getting it to work, so it must have been a compatability issue with my motherboard.
