I'll give it a try this evening after I get home from work. If I run into any problems. I'll ask.
I tried it and it didn't work for me the way that I hoped. I used custom icon that are png based and Windows wouldn't let me replace the standard icons with png files.

There's freeware to allow you to convert from PNG to ICO or you can google and do it online.

you can use software such as Wintiler which allow you to create custom tiles
I used TileCreator from windows store. It's just a bit tricky to use at first but follow the directions exactly as stated here and it will all fall into place. Now it only takes about 30 seconds to change my tiles/icons on start menu. Biggest thing is to remember to "run as admin" or else it won't work. Just go find the .png or .jpeg you would like to use as the tile (or icon) and apply.
