Location for windows 10 installed background image files

Hi. Since updating to win 10 creator, I can no longer find the image files that windows offers to customise the desktop background. I used to personalise them by photoshopping my family into the scenes but the files now seem to be hidden. Incidentally, I was blown away by the stuff Stephanie has done and has got me thinking about starting from scratch, but one step at a time

The standard images supplied with Windows 10 for the desktop (and lock screen) are in the sub-folders of C:\Windows\Web.

If you are going to make custom images for the desktop, it is best to leave the images in C:\Windows\Web unaltered, instead take copies of them and save them to another folder under your Pictures folder (say, 'Wallpaper'). You can modify these copies without fear of loosing them later. When choosing the desktop wallpaper you can browse and use images from any folder, not just the stock images supplied by Microsoft.

The C:\Windows\Web folder is part of the Windows installation, as such its contents may be cleared and/or changed by an upgrade.

If the upgrade to Creators has removed your modified images from Web, they may be found under Windows.old for the next 10 days after the upgrade, after which Windows.old will automatically be deleted.

Hi Bree. Thanks for quick response. The pictures that I want (footpaths) appear in a themes album that I am using at the moment but they are not in windows\web.

    Try looking in %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes
