    Windows updates tweak suggestion

Wouldn't it be great if someone created a tool/tweak/program that forced Windows 10, and future versions, to present you with all updates, but let you, the user, choose what to update, just like Windows 7 did.

As some or most of us have experienced, there's always one or more updates that have made things worse.

WUmgr - for example. Free. Checkbox selection of available updates. Can hide selected updates. Etc.

And another in the tutorial on disabling WU.

Windows updates are not structured in the way they were for Windows 7.
Apart from a few specialist cases such as Defender definitions updates, Windows updates are now all presented as a single monthly Cumulative update.
We either accept or reject the whole thing [even in utilities like WUMgr].

If you use Windows update to do your updating then it does pick and choose components with a Cumulative update [it skips installing an update that has already been installed] but us mere mortals have no visibility of that.
MS programmers are no doubt making use of this consolidated approach by assuming that the latest Cumulative update has been installed whilst they are writing the next one.

    All the best,

A couple of hints as you have Pro:

    Use Group Policy (gpedit.msc) to
    1. Set updates to Notify - that way nothing is downloaded until you say so.
    2. Disable Preview Updates.

As Try3 says hiding updates is of restricted value, and with a few exceptions simply means you'll get the same update content later.

Therefore the above may be worth considering.

A somewhat related option is 'target feature update' (tutorial available) where you choose the major build you wish to stay on (this also prevents any untoward Win 11 upgrade attempt).

I did try to use gpedit.msc but I cannot find the option how to set updates to Notify without downloading & to disable preview updates as well. Can you guide me please ?

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10
    Option 2

Google can help you with such things: not the search string example:

You may also find Policy Plus (free) of help- like the Group Policy Editor but with a useful search feature.

    I searched for preview update:
