    Welcome to tenforums.

    See:
Use Large or Small Taskbar Buttons in Windows 10
Please confirm you can see the change when using this tutorial.

However if I've understood your post, small is too small and large too large. Is that correct?

Why does large seem too large?

There is no info on your PC or your screen resolution.

You could try finding a way to use fewer icons on your taskbar. How many are pinned?
A taskbar toolbar may help you if you really want more shortcuts available from the taskbar.

Add Toolbars to Taskbar in Windows 10

Another possible approach might be to use a double height taskbar. Depends what you wish to achieve...

I want to add spaces between them because sometimes I misclick one of them

    And thank you for replying.

I've never seen a way to do that.

Consider using labels- the buttons are then wider.

And reduce the number of items pinned. Handle those a different way.

if not too many, maybe populate taskbar with 'dummy' (i.e. non-functional/dead) icons for the 'spaces'?
