Remove Edge from Open With Context Menu

How do I Remove the Microsoft Edge entry from the Open With > Context Menu please? . . .

Remove Edge from Open With Context Menu-edge.png

The particular File shown is a .PDF [ Save As PDF ] File. I have looked in the HKCU and HKLM of the Registry, and File Associations, but to NO avail.

I did search @Brinks Tutorials but I might have missed it if one has already been done.

I would rather NOT use Third-Party Software to achieve this, although I did look at Winaero Tweaks but could NOT find anything.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Paul,

The items you see at the top of the list in "Open with" is what you have recently used to open that specific file extension with.

You can use the method in the tutorial below to remove "Microsoft Edge" from the list.

For PDF files, the registry key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\OpenWithList

I Disabled Edge and used Edge Deflector to open ANY Links in the Standalone Chrome that I installed.

You can check using the free OpenWithView program below to see if it may be listed in it to remove.

    Thanks for that.

    I ran it and this is what I got . . .

It is NOT a big deal, but it would be nice to find a way to get rid of it.

    Stubborn thing.

Well, you could try downloading and merging the REG file for the PDF item in the table below to restore the default associations and registry entries for PDF files to see if that may clear it.

    Well thanks, Paul.

Like I really required more corruption to chase down M$ horrors in the OS.

I spent much more time than I'm willing to admit and came up empty. I did locate some interesting tidbits and thought I'd share those with you, hoping they'll lead you somewhere and just sharing the cleaning obsession. :-p

This didn't work but looked interesting.
    From a Run command, enter
    Code:
    inetcpl.cpl

Select the Advanced tab, check 'Hide the option to open with M$ Edge in the right-click menu'. This must be for right-click within M$ Edge only.

    I found & unsuccessfully tweaked lots of interesting items all over the registry, including these locations;

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\BROWSE\HIDEOPENWITHEDGE_CONTEXTMENU

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\BROWSE\HIDEOPENWITHEDGE_CONTEXTMENU

I'm surprised I didn't require to Restore the registry after all those tweaks.

    Thanks for the info, Ghot.

I've tried tweaking this and several other locations without success. I tried completely removing all traces of M$ Edge, among other things.

I was hoping my posts would re-ignite another's motivation to search for the solution.
