Looks like we in the U.S. are catching up! Poverty Rate by Country 2023

No wonder they retired the freaking space shuttle! Having to use Russia to blast us into space is a world wide embarrassment if you ask me.

I don't know whether the poverty argument was serious or not because if it was then no country in the world should be spending money on space exploration. There has always been and will always be poverty in the world. Blaming it on how money is spent is the wrong way to think about it. It is a much more complex problem that money alone can't solve.

Good thing we have SpaceX because NASA itself doesn't have its own capability to fly to the ISS. Boeing was supposed to provide the same capability but has yet to prove itself.

During the development of the ISS a decision was made to have Russia build parts of the ISS. When the Space Shuttle was retired Russia was the only choice to fly to the ISS and have its spacecraft serve as rescue vehicles and provide reboost capabilities.

SpaceX now can if needed take on the sole role of visiting the ISS. However, Russia is still needed to supply spacecraft for rescue and reboost capabilities. Also, since Russia owns part of the ISS they have a right to stay on if they want. It would be a disaster if they left and detached the modules they own.

I have mixed feeling about Artemis because in the 1980's I worked in a support role at Marshall Space Flight Center in the Propulsion Division. While there, there was ongoing development for the Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSME), Solid Rockets Boosters (SRB), and the External Tank (ET). I was disappointment with the development of the SLS because politics forced the use of old Space Shuttle era technology instead of the development of new and more efficient hardware. I am perplexed by its design because even though it more powerful than the Saturn V it isn't even capable of the same mission where it brings its own lander and goes directly into lunar orbit. Also, it is far too expensive to built and launch to provide ongoing lunar missions where a lunar base is to be supported.

Even though NASA picked SpaceX's Starship as the Artemis lunar lander it is still uncertain how well that will work out. A couple months ago NASA selected Blue Origin as second Artemis lunar lander provider. It is even more uncertain about that pick since nothing is known about what it will build or whether it can even even build it.

most poverty problems are caused by greedy governments not space research but India should not be in this business.

Every country in the world has poverty. It is also true that all the money in the world will not solve poverty. Every country also spends money on things you don't agree with. Why are you singling out space research when in the past it has proven a boon to countries that do it? You would be better off finding things that India spends money on that are not so beneficial.

I honestly believe all the world's poverty will come to a halt if anti-gravity were declassified....

Sounds like whimsical fanciful bullcrap, but lets face it. Depending on who you ask, mankind first discovered fire some 50,000 years ago in or near Ethiopia. And here we've been using fire for work in/work out energy for a very, very long time. Planes, trains, automobiles, boats, rockets and power plants. All use fire for work in/work out energy. Now in the context of anti-gravity (so I don't sound like an esoteric nut job), if it were used then electrical generation is practically free. Meaning no fossil or nuclear material needed. Planes, boats, cars, "space ships", you name it will all use what amounts to being a very efficient energy source and capable of things you have NO IDEA about.

Now, the whole flying car thing like in the Jettisons is very possible with anti-gravity or zero point energy. But it also means you can create impenetrable force fields like what Sci-Fi movies have shown. And art often times imitates reality, let me tell you... So countries can keep people out or in at their borders... Thus is the reason why this crap remains classified. Because stupid low IQ chimps are greed head narcissists and can't help themselves... It's the exact same reason why museums keep certain things in their basements. It would upset the world order, geopolitics, financial markets and religion as we know it...

Poverty is not a choice, but I feel for many it is (In the U.S. in particular). Yes, throwing money at it never does anything. It's the politics, the regulations, the laws that help spear on poverty and dictate how a society thrives. Politicians are the catalyst... The catalyst to the misery index. Combined with corporate sociological and psychological take over of the human race. We vote for 'em... Either the politicians or the board of directors...

Space research doesn't provide benefits to everyone especially the poor. For you that means that is not something that the government should be spending money on. I think your viewpoint is very narrow and shortsighted. Much of the technological development the last fifty years has been either the direct or indirect result of space research. Everyone has benefited to some extent because of that.

Research in general is many times not directed to provide immediate results. What is important is that our knowledge is expanded which leads to things we never thought of. In fact, if it wasn't all this research in all things including space then we wouldn't be having this discussion because the Internet as we know it wouldn't exist.

I actually read this on swedish news that NASA was going to launch this streaming service and it will become a free service.

So i might look in on the beta and try to help with positive feedback, if they want that to become even better.
I remember when the Swedish astronaut was up on the space station, then i looked at NASA TV So this streaming service sounds better as it also will have documentary's and stuff.
