I have to this day a model rocket with a small 110 camera. When the cone popped off via the engine it took a picture with a reverse mirror on the side of the nose cone. I put it altogether and never once flew it. Flash forward a couple decades latter and now I have a Chinese spy drone... Curiosity of the DJI company.

    LOL @ living in Gaza.

And they still sell those camera and video rockets...

It'd be funny if it flew and actually went up a duck's ass. But that's just me and my dark sense of humor. LOL

Good times with Mario 1 and Duck Hunt...

Make a video when you fire it.

How high is it supposed to go?

    Pictures... yes, videos... no.
Depends on the engine I use.

The rocket comes down by parachute (36" diameter).
I'm almost 67. My days of chasing model rockets are long gone.

So I'm gonna use an ESTES F15-4
    Which will go 473 feet.

Deployment = when the chute pops out.
Launch Guide = speed at start (still on 5 ft. launch rod).

So far today, I've sanded the fins and the strakes. Built the top half of the rocket.
Built the motor mount. (the strakes are the long thin fins going up the sides of the rocket).

I'm not gonna use the red decals at all, and I'm gonna paint it satin gray.

Besides all the sanding... I built these two sections.
The motor mount is 9" tall and the top portion of the rocket is 25" tall.
The whole rocket will be 47" tall.

The motor mount took forever, cause it's all epoxy.
If you use regular wood glue, the engine, when ignited, would shoot up through the rocket interior, which would NOT be good. It may even prompt people to say: "That's gonna leave a mark".

Well, this morning I sanded a LOT, then glued the strakes on and glued the motor mount into the bottom section of the rocket. The big bottom fins are just sitting in there (not glued), and they "locate" the motor mount height in the main body tube.

Here it is kind of assembled. Fins still need attached, and the top section will slide down into the bottom section, completely... when finished. I have to leave the top section off until the epoxy sets on the top of the motor mount in the lower tube.

Oooh... I used MS Paint and had it... "remove the background".

    Looking good.

I wonder if you could affix a small camera to it to give the full SpaceX experience.

Oh yeah... easily. They also have little circuit board altimeters you can attach as well.

With engines like that obtaining that kind of height, it may be wise to use the FAA's App called B4UFLY that drone "pilots" use to tell you whether it's safe to fly or not. It amazes me the FAA got their ass all up in drone "pilots" biz about having to have a license for a drone weighing more than 250 grams and pass a quiz to fly a drone. But model rockets? Nah... Believe me, I know how high 300' feet is let alone over a thousand. The Statue of Liberty is 305' tall. I flew my drone up to 300' at the park.

They do sell trackers to be installed in a model rocket or you can build one. Years ago Ramsey Kits had one.
