    Transfer Speed Rant.

I can't believe the transfer speed between two USB 3.0 drives. I can make a Macrium image to a USB 3.0 drive in about 15 minutes. I'm in the process of moving a image from one drive to another drive and it's been over a hour and still below the halfway mark.

After waiting over two hours the copy was still under 50% so I canceled the copy. I plugged both drives into my laptop and tried again. On my desktop the transfer speeds were under 10MBps second and would sometimes spike to over 30MBps. On my laptop the transfer speed never dropped below 30 MBps. The only thing I know that was different is that I was using a USB 3.0 hub on the desktop. Anyone know if this is normal for a USB 3.0 hub to cause the transfer speeds to be that low?

A question: is the hub used port-powered or self-powered? What type of USB drives? Even though USB 3 on motherboards can supply more power that USB 2, in practical use I still find inconsistencies with using the port-powered hubs with port-powered drives such as portables and thumbs.

No it isn't , my usb 3 hub speed runs at 127 average on all my drives, speed may drop to 80 on bunch of small files.
30 would be usb 1 or 2 speeds.

I would start by checking the disks for errors and defraging them.
Look for any program that may be hampering your speed, this would be like antivirus live checking
to having networked share folders on the drive.

    Incredibly slow file transfer
VERY Slow transfer rates between separate internal HDD's

Large file copying speed. Why does it slow down?

The hub uses a separate power supply. I double checked and it is plugged into a USB 3.0 port on the back of the computer. The source drive is a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus drive and the destination drive is a WD 4TB My Passport drive.

    Hi,
Were both hdd's on the same hub if so it would be sharing the speed of a single usb3 port external powered or not.

I may have a problem with the source drive. it's a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus drive. Some times when I first plug it in I get a message about the USB device not being recognized then the message goes away and it is assigned a drive letter. I was going to do a Macrium restore the other night and Macrium only found one restore image. It was a very old one. I have 13 images for my desktop and 4 images for my laptop. When I try mounting the images sometimes I get a error and it won't mount and other times it mounts without any problems. All test show the drive is OK. I think that maybe the drive controller board may be going bad. That's why I wanted to transfer some of my older images to the new WD My Passport drive.

Yes, Both were plugged into the USB hub. The next time I do a large file transfer I'll plug one drive into the computer and the other into the hub. My laptop only has 3 USB ports. one is a USB 2 port and the other 2 are USB 3.0 ports. Wouldn't that give me the same results? The reason I ask is that if My hub is causing me problems I'll order a new one from Amazon or Micro Center.

very good idea and accurate .
After you do make the transfer, you could think about an external enclosure,
or dock. Of course this means opening the case and removing the HD.
That is up to you since you will probably destroy the case its in and wont be able to go back.

The hub might be going of course and may need replacing.

I'm not sure it has a separate controller board or not. The case isn't very big. It's not much larger that a laptop drive.

Edit: It would be great if the drive has a separate controller board and I could take it out and put it in another enclosure. I would hate to lose a 4TB drive.
