    Afternoon /evening all.

Nice windows Borg. Will be an amazing change when it comes heating season.

Never did get that dial-up modem going, needs to be replaced. That said I did fix her email on the new Win 10 laptop and Android phone so got an "At a boy" !!

Wow this old insider laptop is getting worked over this week. Download started.
    Evening Ken,

Well, don't know if it'll actually do that much good being this place is a big draft box, but it's gotta help some. At least the wind won't chill things down so bad in this room in the winter, or so we hope.

These windows lean inward for easy cleaning, so that should help some.

Wait, the damn things have batteries??????

Evening Beeman. Not sure how they have that system set up, I could take them apart later & see how they got that to work. Might be something to do on a rainy day.

No big deal , the glass was also old & a bit weathered, probably the same windows from when the house was built.

Something interesting the installation guys told me, they said they would rather put new windows into an old house like this then a new one. Apparently it's a lot easier to pop them in & out for the older houses, compared to the new ones. You would think it would be the other way around, but that's what they said.

Probably how the casements were set. Older ones weren't so weather tight. Guessing.

Well, all they had to do was take off the boards on the side of the windows, didn't have to touch the board frames on the inside, just take those inside boards off, and the whole window, frame & all just lifted out. They put the new ones into the space & screwed them in, sealed them with insulation & that was that. They did have to beat in the wheels on the frame, the ones that had a rope going to the weights inside the window frame.

No, they were far from weather tight. The air came through either the frame or the separation in the top/bottom window itself, even when it was closed.

Those old windows are in a casement newer windows are nailed direct to the frame of the house.

As one of the old timers here told me, this was originally a "coal house." We even have a small metal door on the front of the house to one of the rooms under the front porch, that was where they delivered/dumped the coal into the basement.

According to him, coal burned so hot in the wintertime that you usually had to open the windows in the dead of winter because it got so hot in the house. So insulated windows weren't a necessity.

Oh OK, understand now why removing them from a newer house would be a PIA.
