    BSOD System service exception win32kbase.sys

    Hello,

Firstly I hope Windows 11 is not a problem here :) Version 23H2 Build 22631.3085
I have a brand new system, and I keep getting mentioned crashes. BIOS set at modest perf enhancement, no overclocking whatsoever, all updates installed, SFC and DISM cleanup reported no problems, no hardware issues that I know of, windows memtest is OK after three passes overnight. Googled my a$$ off over this, with no success. Tried reseating RAMs and GPU, also no joy.
Another issue is with games, specifically Cities Skylines II, after some playtime the screen goes black with GPU fans spinning up to 100%, as if the GPU tried to pull more juice out of the PSU than it was designed for. Also would love an answer if 750W is enough for a 13700k and a 3070.
System logs zip in the link below.
    Thanks alot in advance.

How come the thread was not opened in Eleven Forum?

    Please perform the following steps:

    1) Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...p_plus_log.bat

Batch files for use in BSOD debugging

Batch files for use in BSOD debugging

    2) Make sure that there is no overclocking during the troubleshooting.

The i7-13700K supports RAM speeds up to 5600.

At the time V2 ran the RAM speed was recorded at 6000.

    Turn off XMP.

    3) Check to see whether the installed RAM modules are or are not on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL)

If found on the QVL then post images or share links

    4) Run Memtest86+ for 8 or more passes

The testing time can be very long for 64 GB.

16GB or 32GB testing can be performed using the same DIMM

Take pictures > post images or share links

Hello and thanks for the reply.

First thing I found, my RAM is not on the memory support list of the board:
    Z790 GAMING X AX (rev. 1.x) Support | Motherboard - GIGABYTE Global

My friend's 32GB modules are on there, he's got dual 32GB, same vendor, same product line. Motherboard is also the same, only the CPU differs, i9-13900k.

    AIDA64 memory information:
    BSOD System service exception win32kbase.sys-image.png

    Tuneup log:
    Tuneup.log

Should I turn off XMP and run the V2 script again or not?
And, with the RAM not being on the support list, maybe that's the thing causing my issues? Didn't think to check on this when I ordered the components.

I'll run the memtest overnight, hopefully six to eight hours will be enough for eight passes.

    Thanks

    Tuneup plus results were good.

If Memtest86 displays pass the next test will be swap testing RAM.

Instead of running Memtest86 the RAM can be swap tested with QVL RAM.

Memtest86 was not designed to test for incompatible RAM.

There's a disclaimer at the bottom of the memory support list:
    * Memory modules listed as above is for reference only. Due to massive memory models in market, we can only verify some of them.

My friend has these modules: KF560C36BBEK2-64, even the DRAM chip manufacturer is the same (SK Hynix). My modules are KF560C36BBE-16, is that such a huge difference as to cause issues when not on the verified list (e.g. is it just one of those skipped by Gigabyte, or outright incompatible)?

Many times non-QVL RAM can be used.

It is often overlooked as a cause of instability.

With this being a new build it's high on the troubleshooting steps.

An alternative testing option is to remove all RAM modules > reseat them > check for computer stability / instability

If there is instability > remove all RAM modules > label them > test them one at a time in the same DIMM

Thanks for the insights. This is definitely very helpful. Unfortunately I don't have any DIMMs readily available for swap testing, maybe I'll just end up buying a set that's definitely on the list at some point. For now I'll disable XMP on the next reboot and see what happens with that.

On my other point about the display going black and GPU power draw, how's that looking? Since this issue is happening only in Cities Skylines II (I'm playing various games, none other did this yet), could it be caused by the game's poor optimization and (reported) over-rendering of invisible objects?

Will you be able to test the installed RAM modules one at a time in the same DIMM?

So far no further BSODs (that were also happening outside of Cities Skylines II) after I've posted this thread. I'd leave it at that for now (with the reseated components as mentioned in the OP), till the next BSOD, and after that I'll know what to do, test all DIMMs one by one in the same slot, guess that buying new modules from the list will be the ultimate end result.

There were problems seen in the logs related to the GPU drivers or GPU card.

Continue using the computer and post new V2 as crashes occur.
