    BSOD during any/all games

BSOD is always faced during loading screens of most games or within 2m of gameplay. PC restarts before able to see BSOD error. Games faced & verified BSOD on:
    • CS GO
    • God Of War
    • Marvels Spider-man Remastered
    • Stray

I haven't gamed in some time, so unable to state when this started.
    Have tried
    • Cleaning my PC
    • Updating softwares & drivers,
    • Clean installing the latest game-ready GPU driver from Nvidia Geforce Experience.

    Log file: HERE
Specs: Updated System Spec in Profile
Windows Version: Windows 10 Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3693)

    Do advice. Thank you.

When were the RAM modules (CMW32GX4M2D3600C18) installed?

The computer has misbehaving Avast drivers.

BSOD WHEA 124 are almost always related to malfunctioning or incompatible hardware.

The RAM were not seen on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL).

There may also be malfunctioning or incompatible hardware.

    Please perform the following steps:

    1) The BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 2601, 17/5/2022

    Upgrade the BIOS: 2601 > 2801

ROG STRIX Z490-F GAMING | Motherboards | ROG United States

    2) Run Tuneup plus > post a shar link

Batch files for use in BSOD debugging

    3) Turn off Windows fast startup:

    4) Uninstall Avast using the applicable uninstall tool:

Avast Removal Tool | Download Avast Clear | Avast
How to use the Avast Uninstall Tool | Avast
How to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus | Avast

    5) Make sure that Microsoft defender is on

    6) Perform Windows and defender updates

    7) Create a new restore point:

    8) Monitor the computer for three days using Reliability monitor:

    9) For any BSOD after uninstalling Avast run Memtest86+ overnight and the next day for eight or more passes

Take pictures > post share links

    10) If there are no BSOD during the three days of monitoring then that will complete the troubleshooting

Actually a 0x124 bugcheck is mostly caused by faulty hardware, especially where the exception code is a machine check exception. One of the recent dumps is a 0x14 indicating a machine check exception. That said, it is true that a rogue driver can occasionally cause a 0x124. Avast drivers are the likely cause of all but one of the other dumps uploaded, so I'd suggest uninstalling Avast using the official uninstall tool. All third-party anti-malware products cause BSODs on many systems, to be honest you don't need them. Windows Firewall and Windows Defender are plenty good enough. That will eliminate Avast as a potential cause of the 0x124 BSOD as well.

I do think it's worth downloading and running the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool to see whether that finds any CPU issues to account for the machine check exception.

    Hi zbook & ubuysa,

Thank you both for your inputs. Sharing the update.
When were the RAM modules (CMW32GX4M2D3600C18) installed?
The (CMW32GX4M2D3600C18) RAM modules were installed since the start, during the initial PC build by the store. I had removed & re-attached them during the cleaning process. I have repeated this process now and re-verified that they're installed correctly.

    • Bios successfully updated (including Intel ME) to 2801

      BSOD during any/all games-intel-dignostic-results.png

Unfortunately still crashes during game launches. Now no BSOD seen. Instead, it freezes, and then either it auto reboots or requires a manual reboot via the power button.

I'm also considering the possibility of a hardware issue. However, it would help if we could narrow down which part. Am trying to avoid the struggle to bring the whole PC down to a shop for diagnosis. (Regretting my case & part choices here)

I did initially think it could be the CPU overheating (as temps do reach 100 celcius during game startups), however, no BSOD or crash was faced during the CPU stress test in CPU-Z or Furmark (even though temps reach 100 here as well) or at other points where I've seen it reach similar temps. No issues in running Cinebench benchmarking as well.

Will now leave it to run MemTest86+ and update again.

    Tuneup plus results were unremarkable.

Please make sure that Memtest86+ runs for 8 or more passes.

The more the passes the better the testing conditions.

It sometimes takes passes into the 20's to find malfunctioning RAM.

Just 1 error is a test fail and testing can be aborted.

Could you please upload your System and Application logs?

    1. Enter the command eventvwr into the Run command box. The Event Viewer will open.
    2. Locate the Windows Logs folder in the left hand pane and expand it by clicking on the arrow (>) to the left of it.
    3. Right-click on the Application entry and select 'Save all events as...'. Choose a folder anywhere that suits you and a filename of 'Application' (an .evtx suffix will be added automatically).
    4. Right-click on the System entry and select 'Save all events as...'. Choose a folder anywhere that suits you and a filename of 'System' (an .evtx suffix will be added automatically).
    5. Upload the System.evtx and Application.evtx files with a link to them here.

Apologies for the delayed response. My screen had gone on stand-by during the metest and I had lost the results. Had to re-run it.

Re-tested post the memtest. Crash is still reproducible and consistent during load screens.

Back in September there was a drive with bad blocks.
    Was the drive replaced?

Looking through your System log (which goes back a nice long time!) there are several messages that give serious cause for concern...

The first are old, dating back to September where you had a problem with a drive (probably your System drive)...
    Code:
    Log Name: System
    Source: disk
    Date: 27/09/2023 07:58:55
    Event ID: 7
    Task Category: None
    Level: Error
    Keywords: Classic
    User: N/A
    Computer: DESKTOP-FRACTAL-TITAN
    Description:
The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block.
There were a huge number of these messages, but then they stopped. Did you fix this drive issue, and if so, how?

There are also a great many error messages for your AX200 WiFi adapter...
    Code:
    Log Name: System

These stop on 9th December, so did you fix that issue? If so, how?

More worryingly, and more recently, you've been getting some sort of hardware error...
    Code:
    Log Name: System
    Source: Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger
    Date: 09/12/2023 22:34:41

    Task Category: None
    Level: Warning
    Keywords:
    User: LOCAL SERVICE
    Computer: DESKTOP-FRACTAL-TITAN
    Description:
A corrected hardware error has occurred.

    Reported by component: Processor Core
    Error Source: Unknown Error Source
    Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
    Processor APIC ID: 16

The details view of this entry contains further information.
The Cache Hierarchy Error reported is typically either a RAM problem or a CPU problem. In your position I would now download and run Prime95, this will stress test your CPU and RAM (in a couple of tests). This will make your CPU run hot, so you'll also need to run a temperature monitor (like CoreTemp).

Run all three Prime95 tests (Small FFTs, Large FFTs, and Blend) one after the other and for at l;east an hour each test. If Prime95 generates errors, if the system crashes or BSODs, or if your CPU temp exceeds 60C* then stop testing and let us know what happened.

*The max operating temp of your FX-8350 is 61°C (source https://www.amd.com/en/support/cpu/a...essors/fx-8350)

Windows 10 is running on my PC for many years without problems such as BSOD's. But about 8 months ago problems started to happen. Most of the time the system freezes, nothing works anymore. Pressing the power button is the only remedy. It seems that the system was put into sleeping mode, because Windows automatically restarts (not a reboot) Then BSOD's may occur. Sometimes "Collecting sytem information" remain at 0% or only the blue screen appears (freeze) or after collecting and restaring this might happen repeatedly.
I have Avast running, which means that it reloads everytime upon the restart. The BSOD screen often reports different .sys files failing.

Running the Windows checking options such as memory check, sfc /scannow etc. are always reporting no problems

These errors happen a different number of days after another, then for weeks everything is working without any problems.
I suspect Avast is causing these problems may be in relation with other software that is connecting the internet such as Adobe checking my subscription. Clearly this may cause delay on Windows loading it's system files at the same time.
If a driver would be corrupted, then it cannot be in good order after the BSOD's do not happen foor weeks after.

When booting the system and leaving it for a while before logging in, things are working fine most of the time during "Problem Days"
Next problem period I will uninstall Avast completely and see what happens using Window's utilities
