    Volmgr 161 + WHEA

Hey all, thank you for your time in advance. I’ve been working to fix my custom built PC for 3+ years now, as I’ve experienced the same BSOD throughout 10+ fresh windows installations, changing every single part of the PC, taken it to two different professionals… I’ve been through it all with this thing.

    Specs:
Windows 10 Home edition (64bit), Version 22H2, OS build 19045.2788
    Asus ROG z590e-gaming mobo
    AORUS RTX3080 master edition
    Intel i7-10700k CPU
    64gb (16x4) Ballistix RAM 3600 Mhz
    860 Platinum corsair PSU
Samsung 970 evo plus NVMe SSD (also tried a WD SSD, and took that out thinking it was the culprit).

The errors present are always in this order:
    Error: EventLog 6008
    Error: volmgr 161
    Critical: Kernel-Power 41
    Error: EventLog 1101
    Error: WHEA-Logger Event 1

This particular crash doesn’t allow for dump files to be collected, so I don’t have any to share unfortunately. I’ve gone through all the troubleshooting in the book to get those files to appear, but in this instance it won’t generate them. Thanks so much!

the log collector gives us those errors, driver info, disk info, lots of info besides dump files. the only reason a dmp would not be created is if windows is set not to, or low disk space

The system supposedly crashes before it is able to write the dmp file, according to other forums and people experiencing this same issue. I have all the correct settings and terabytes worth of free space.

    Some questions....

    1. Are you certain that it BSODs? What stop code is generated? (You might want to disable auto-restart so you have a chance to read the blue screen message).

    2. You may be reinstalling the problem (especially if you use registry cleaners or 'tune-up' tools). Have you tested it thoroughly immediately after reinstalling Windows, drivers, and all Windows updates, but with NOTHING else installed? If not, please do so.

    3. Have you tried starting in Safe Mode? In this mode only Windows drivers are loaded, it if BSODs/crashes in Safe Mode then it's most likely a hardware problem.

    1. I am certain it BSOD’s. The error code is WHEA uncorrectable error.
    2. I don’t have any tune up tools and don’t overclock or anything like that. However, that is a good thought- I don’t think I gave it enough time after the reinstalls to really see if the system BSODs all on its own. I would need to at least install, say nvidia geforce experience so my graphics card is enabled, along with a game to play to push it a little, perhaps Apex through steam client.

    3. I don’t think it has ever BSOD’d in safe mode.

After testing a few things, my PC now doesn’t give me a display, although my mobo says all systems go. Ugh, down the rabbit hole we go. Hoping to fix that latest problem, and then I’ll test your suggestions 2 and 3. Thank you! Will send updates when there’s one to share

That can sometimes be caused by bad drivers.

If you do reinstall just run Windows Update repeatedly, and across reboots, until no more updates are found. Then, click ''View optional updates', expand Driver Updates, and install all drivers found in there (this will install an Nvidia driver too - you don't need GeForce Experience). Then test it as hard as you can, without installing any other software. If it won't BSOD then it's a problem with a driver that you later install.

    3. I don’t think it has ever BSOD’d in safe mode.
Then the problem is with a third-party driver that you are installing.

Thanks all, I will keep you updated. I was instructed to uninstall nvidia’s audio driver and so far I haven’t experienced a crash. For how long I’ve been experiencing issues, I’m not even gonna come close to calling it solved before it’s been at least a month or two. Will you keep you all updated - love this community!

I've seen that (Nvidia's audio driver) cause problems before. Fingers crossed.
