GPU Crash(?) during load after boot from cold

Hi all,

Been having some trouble pinpointing the problem, but after booting up the computer from a state where it was shut down via Windows Start menu and putting the machine under load, the display cuts. Simultaneously, the fans on the GPU will spin at max. No blue screen happens, and for the most part i/o still occurs. I am able to speak in a call and hear people, but visuals are dead. After pressing the reset button on my PC case, the PC will boot as normal and wont have this crash until a full shutdown has occurred. I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but a fresh install of windows and drivers didn't do the trick. Hopefully you guys have some answers.

That's actually another issue I'm dealing with. There is an older copy of windows 11 on one of the hard drives that is actually tied to my Microsoft account. I haven't figured out how to unlink the old copy to link the new one. The crashes still occurred on a valid windows copy, so I didn't mention that bit right away.

I hate appearing to be pedantic, but the forum rules prohibit assistance with potentially pirated software...

The only thing of note I can see in your SYstem log is a recent bunch of unknown errors for nvlddmkm.sys - the NVIDIA graphics driver...

There are 9 of these errors logged, all immediately one after the other - the timestamps range from 23:50:13.3390000Z to 23:50:13.3450000Z, so they are literally one after the other. This might indicate an issue with the graphics card because it didn't BSOD (so the driver behaved itself).

Your description of the problem only happening from a cold start is interesting. In a cold start the card takes the shock of power-on and its temperature is cold. With a restart the card remains powered (pretty much) and is warm, so the electrical and thermal shock at restart is much less.

I think this may be a flaky graphics card. Try popping it out and reseating it fully. See whether that helps.

BTW. I see you're running EasyAntiCheat, Valorant Anti Cheat, and BattleEye Anti Cheat. All of these have been known to cause BSODs, BattleEye in particular. I don't think any of these are causing your current issue, though it's not impossible. Just be aware that we often see BSODs caused by these products.

I will uninstall the driver, reseat and install again, and let you know.

Finally got around to it, and unfortunately the problem lingers. I have attached a new log file, after a few resets to see if anything changed from your guy's perspective.

Consider swap testing hardware components: PSU, CPU, etc.

With AMD processors it's important to keep the AGESA microcode up to date, this is shipped in BIOS updates. There is a very recent BIOS update for your board dated 24th April 2023 that does contain AGESA updated code for Ryzen 5000 series (Vermeer) CPUs. I would update to that BIOS/AGESA and then see how things are.

There are also TPM errors in the system log. AFAIK that will stop Windows 11 from running properly. Perhaps the BIOS update will fix that too? ...
