    Random reboot and BSODs

    Hello,

I built my system last november. It runs very well except for the occasional BSOD and sudden reboot. These have been happening since I've built it. I can't remember when it started, but it was very early. These days, though, they are getting very frequent at about a rate of 1 every 2 hours.

I've already reinstalled Windows, so I don't think it is a software issue. I've tested both memory sticks extensively through 12 passes on memtest86 and they've always returned with no errors. I tried running the system with each stick, one at a time, and is still randomly crashes.

The crashes happens at any time, be it when idling or under load while gaming.

I'm running Windows 10 Education. Version number is Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.867)

Attached is the V2 log. Note that the number of dumps does not equal the number of crashes. I've had a lot more before reinstalling Windows and unfortunately didn't keep the dumps.

Many thanks for your help in diagnosing the faulty part.

Hello kernelpanic and welcome to TenForums

I would not rule out software at this stage. You do have a lot of 3rd party software installed that can introduce problems.

I would consider removing all of the ASUS software to start with and see if it makes a difference.

    Thank you for your reply.

So I went ahead and removed all ASUS software then rebooted and about 45 minutes later it crashed again.

Please try a clean boot and see if the crashes stop. Effectively this stops all 3rd party software loading at the start and if it cures the crash you can gradually load software items back into the start-up process until you find the one that is causing the crash.

The process is described here in more detail: Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts | Tutorials (tenforums.com)

If it still crashes with a clean boot then we are most likely looking at unknown hardware failure.

Okay so I did that and so far it hasn't crashed yet. It's only been 1.5 hours so we'll wait and see, but so far it is encouraging.

    I'll keep you posted!

    Thank you very much again.

So it seems like it is indeed a software issue! I even narrowed it down to the Corsair iCUE software I use to tweak my mouse DPI settings. When it's not started, I never get a crash. The moment I start it up, it could take minutes or hour but it will eventually crash. It's literally the first thing I install after a windows installation, so that makes sense the crashed were never solved.

From what I read on reddit from a similar issue, the iCUE software loads a driver when first starting up. That driver is cpuz150_x64.sys and is used for polling the sensors for monitoring.

Now, I'm suspecting it might actually be a hardware error, something about the sensors controller (?) being bad and causing the driver to crash when polling.

Would you know of any way to test that particular part? If it is indeed faulty, I'll probably need some proof in order to RMA the board.

I can believe that the iCUE software is causing problems as we have come across this issue before but it will not be the cpuz150x64.sys driver because that is not on your system. That belongs to another program which you do not have.

For now I would continue to use the system and I would not worry too much about hardware issues unless you get further problems. Contact Corsair and see if they have any update on the issue if you really need to use that software.

So unfortunately it doesn't seem like that was the issue at all. Crashes are back and the system seems even more unstable today. Lots of crashes. Reinstalled windows once more and it BSOD'ed right after installation has completed and kept BSOD'ing at a pace of one per hour.

I even swapped the two memory sticks for the ones in my server, same crashes happens. So memory seems good. I'm currently testing them with memtest86+ on the server just to see if it would find errors that my gaming PC didn't find.

Please upload a new V2 log so that we can explore the latest crashes.

Sometimes with a new installation it can take a few days before the system settles down - this is because Windows Update works in the background updating drivers and sometimes they show up as optional updates that you have to select. Keep checking in Windows Update for any that show up.
