Daily restart

Morning everyone,

I have a desktop machine that is rebooting very often, almost daily but not quite. I was wondering if this was maybe a RAM issue, so I did a RAM diagnostics which manage to complete 4 passes, no errors. After 40 hours I decided to start testing other items. I did a CPU test using Prime95 for about 3 hours and everything was good. CPU throttled down due to heat, it reached 79f. However system remain active with no issues. I am currently testing my GPU using FurMark. Temperatures are high but not unsafe, i've even tried a GPU and CPU stress test at the same time. Computer operates no problems.

Reboots/BSOD happen when i am away from my desk.
Ideas or tips are welcomed.

Looking at the six BSOD error reports I can see that 5 are caused by the 0x124 Hardware error and all are being reported as a L1 cache instruction read error.


When there is a consistent error like this it tends to suggest the CPU may be faulty or overclocked, however, we are always cautious not to immediately blame the CPU which is simply reporting the error. I can't see evidence that it is overclocked and if it happens when not under stress it is not likely to be overheating.

Some things to try:
Make sure all BIOS settings are at their default settings
Operate in safe mode and see if it still crashes - this is good confirmation of hardware errors rather than driver errors
If you have another CPU try swapping it and retest.

I also received one today, i was in the kitchen when I noticed my PC rebooting 07/02/2018 12:15:20 am

I'll do safe mode before heading to bed and watch my system the next few days. I don't have another CPU I was hoping to avoid a new PC. At least until Christmas.

Either way your tip is extremely valuable. I'll let you know if it continues to happen while operating in safe mode.

Just did over 40 hours in safe mode with networking no issues. no BSOD.
Will try normal boot for some time to see if it happens again.

OK, that is a good result and tends to point towards a driver issue. See what happens with a normal boot, if you get a BSOD post a new set of logfiles using the beta log_collector provided at the end of the BSOD posting instructions. Then, in preparation, you can read up the tutorial on Clean Booting because that is what I will be suggesting if we still need to track down what is causing the problem.

Nothing yet, but I've only just launch the programs I tend to run all the time. VMs, browsers, office programs, and such. Will reply when I get another BSOD. Thanks for replying, nice to know I am not alone on this one.
