Could you upload the srttrails.txt file created by startup repair by copying it to a USB and uploading it from another pc.

I would if I could only find anything beyond what you see in the second photo in post #8. I am not even able to copy what I see, and am just going to let you guide me. I was going to change attribs, but do not want to disturb anything at this point. C:\ shows a directory .\AThumbs which contains \Documents. I'm unable to copy either - error is 'unable to find the file specified.'

I do appreciate you time. Do you have suggestions?

Assuming C:\ is the Windows partition, the following command should work
    Code:
    copy C:\Windows\System32\logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt "X:\"
X:\ is the partition of the USB, change it to the appropriate letter please.

Returned 'The system cannot find the path specified.'

I'm guessing I might need to discuss further action with the client - like starting from scratch. Tough thing. He's 70+, legally blind, special tools installed and has no backup. But there is that reality thing that happens.

Could you run startup repair once more and try above again.

Please make sure that F:\ is within quotes.
    Code:
copy C:\Windows\System32\logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt "F:\" <-- underscores added for emphasises
Could you run the following command and let me know what the output is.
    Code:
    dir c:\windows\system32\logfiles\srt

I see why, in post #13 I mentioned that I assumed 'C' is the lettter of the Windows partition which it is not according to your screenshot. You need to change C to X.
