BSOD at random intervals. Multiple error codes.
Hi all,
I'm dealing with a rather perplexing BSOD issue that seems to have cropped up on my Surface Pro 3 after installation of the new Jan 20 firmware update pushed out by Microsoft that included the Intel microcode to patch the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerabilities.
It's one of the following error codes, almost never the same one in a row. Sometimes the system boots into a loop of 5-6 BSOD in a row, which mainly occur immediately after signing in, but sometimes just as soon as the Windows 10 sign-in screen loads. Other times, it'll occur randomly when opening a program (has happened opening Word, Chrome, while running windbg.exe, while working in Word and while working in Chrome among other instances). In short there doesn't seem to be one specific and obvious cause for the crashes.
Error codes displayed have included (and I may still be missing one or two):
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (reasonably frequent)
BAD_POOL_HEADER
DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER
IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL
I've included the details from the forum debug tool as well as the three most recent Windows minidumps (these are from a few days ago as minidump folder is empty for some reason tonight, but relate to the same issues/error codes). This is my laptop but also used as my primary work laptop, so any assistance at all is hugely appreciated. I have probably spent the equivalent of 24 hours in lost time and my own attempts to diagnose the issue this week! Hoping you folks are smarter than me...
Thanks in advance!
