How to stop ad popups in Chrome

I thought at first this only applied to my Win 7 PC, but now it is occuring on my Windows 10 PC's also.

When I first start up in morning and open Chrome the first time (does not happen on other browsers) I get possibly 25-30 ad popups. After closing them all I may get an occassional popup.

I went to youtube and asked how to stop the popups,. I followed their instructions and for short time it seemed to work. NOW thely are back.

How do I stop these popups?

Have you tried an adblocker extension like AdGuard &/or Ghostery?

    Hello @huffman,

I do NOT know if this helps, but I use Extensions > Adblock Plus - Free Ad Blocker and Adblocker for Outlook.

    I hope this helps.

Made a note of those. Thanks

Yesterday, when I opened Chrome on my Win 7 PC, I got a pop up which seemed to be from Google Chrome Team saying they were coming out with something that would allow the user to control what pop ups they would see. I will believe that when I see it.

Pop ups have been an issue since I purchased my first PC back in 1970 (the good old days LOL).

Anyway Paul Black, I will check those out.

    Thanks

Have you tried browser reset? It could be adware, extensions or notifications from a webpage.

Poper Blocker (it is not adblocker), but it blocks every popup, like paypal and such.

    @huffman

We can't see what you are seeing without a screenshot. Maybe they are push notifications,

Have a read (all of it).

If it is push notifications then it's user error on your part.

Push notifications are a feature of most browsers. Sometimes the notifications might be useful. The user decides what to allow or block or what sites to subscribe to.

Allow or Block Website Notifications in Google Chrome in Windows

I have since removed Google Chrome from the Win 7 PC and sure did stop the crap pop ups. I use Brave browser now.

Now for a new issue. This morning on my Win 10 PC I started getting ad pop ups with out having a browser open. What the heck is going on.??

I installed AdBlocker and now it is wait and see if it works. I did NOT really care for question it asked during the install.

Hope it is OK to have two ad blockers insalled. I also installed uBlock Origin. It indicataed it was for Edge only..

It might be nothing to do with ads. Educate yourself about push notifications as per Post #8

Or if it's the built in advertising read through this:

    Disable Advertising in Windows 10

We really need a screenshot of one of these ads/ pop ups so that we can identify what it might be.
