How to set default apps and can i use yahoo mail?

Instead of opening Yahoo and attaching pdf and txt files etc, it'd be good if I could click on the file in Explorer and have yahoo mail open for me there and then.

    Can this be done?

Googling to find out I came across the suggestion I should set a default app for 'send to' on the right click in Explorer.

Googling that I came across a suggestion that I should open settings/system/default apps.

But that doesn't exist on my computer. There's no 'default apps' choice there.

So can it be done and if so how and anyway how do I set default apps whether or not this can be done?

    :)

Can you find this in Settings? (Remember to try the Search box too if you're not sure about navigating Settings)

By default, Sendto (mail) is intended to launch an installed mail client such as Thunderbird etc. So what it launches should be the default program.

Exactly how are you accessing yahoo mail? Which program are you using?

If you are talking about a mail service, yahoo, that's completely different, unless there's a specific yahoo mail app, which it seems there is. In which case you'd have to install the app and then set it as your default mail app.

However if you access your mail via a browser, that's different. One thread below refers to yahoo via Chrome.

Thanks for that. I was looking in the wrong place - under settings/system. It's right there under/settings/apps.

Yes, I use a browser to log in to yahoo. Navigate to their login page and log in.

I'll try this app and see if it helps. All I want to do is save a tiny bit of time and a few keystrokes by just right clicking on a file in Windows explorer and having an email open up with that file already attached and all ready to send as soon as I put in a send to address and a subject.

Doesn't matter much if I can't get it.

I could install thunderbird, too, I guess, if it's easier that way. Used to use it but not for a couple of years I guess now.

I don't much like this logging into the Store to download this app - we can't just log in we have to share all sorts of info, too.

contacts and whatever..... from facebook, from wherever... our gmail accounts?

Hi, one of the links refers to using Chrome for yahoo as default via Sendto.

It depends what your objectives are.. and I'd personally prefer a solution that does not tie me exclusively to one provider. (I use 4 different email services fluently via Poppeeper (tray IMAP/POP free/commercial) that scans all accounts periodically in a second or so and indicates if new mail, and allows processing, and Thunderbird, but via the same SPAM filter. But then, I prefer to keep my mail on 1 device. If you wish to sync across devices, that's another matter. Thunderbird's support could be fluttering to a close.

The Mail App in Windows 10 does not do the Mail Sendto Protocol.
Nothing to do with the Default, you can set the Mail App to default, it won't do the Sendto Protocol.

You have to add a different Mail client app/application or other ways.

Thanks for reminding me. Why is that? Sendto requires the mail client to be able to take parameters (here- the file as attachment). Windows universal apps don't use the exe/dll model, and don't take parameters.

In that second link you gave I mention that it is possible to set Firefox and Yahoo mail as the default MAILTO handler, but that it requires a registry fix for Firefox before you can do that. I didn't actually link to my description of how I did that, which is here...
