Thank you for your reply. I'll try what you have suggested. You mentioned not knowing what was on the (System 'F' ) 100mb partition.
I believe it signifies Legacy Bios. YES, Legacy BIOS. I was wondering, since the drive (C2B5) I'm using now was cloned 15 days prior to the clone from the same source drive (5291) to drive (6719) that failed, if attempting to Image this C2B5 drive to the new one I'll be getting might be an easier way to 'fix' this problem, if I can boot the PC from an Imaged drive? I'll reply back on Saturday. Thank you

This morning 12-30-23, right now, I'm using the disk (5291) which was the disk that did not clone successfully on 12-17-23. I ran the chkdsk c: /scan and have made a snip of the result. “Windows has scanned the file and found no problems”. Does this mean that the ‘C’ partition is clean? However, it also said “8 KB in bad sectors” whatever that means? Maybe the cloning error on 12-17 was caused by another partition? I also checked the Event Viewer. the event viewer showed two errors: Event 7 "device has bad block" and Event 55: 'H' The Master File Table (MFT) contains a corrupted file record". The 'H' partition is the partition that was on the destination SSD (6719) when the clone of 12-17 failed. Today I also used disk C2B5 that was cloned 15 days before the one I had trouble with to clone to another old SSD was successful meaning that the 'problem' happened somewhere and somehow within those 15 days. I hope you can glean some meaning out of all this because I find it very difficult!Macrium Reflect Update-5291-chkdsk-c-12-30-23.jpg

We need to bring this to a close.

It seems likely that the files on your Windows partition are intact.

However there is some evidence (bad sectors) that the disk may be beginning to fail.

We still do NOT know if you can image the Windows partition successfully.

There is evidence (the failure to clone) that there is corruption on the disk.

When a disk starts to fail and bad sectors start to impinge on the file system used, it's best not to use that disk and in particular not to write to it. The problem can only get worse.

I forget if this is a SSD or HDD - I'm not going to read back as this thread is getting too long. Normally there's a pool of spare sectors and the drive's firmware takes care of swapping bad sectors with that pool. Eventually either the failure of a sector means loss of data or the pool is used, and problems become apparent.

    To check the disk:
    Download CrystalDiskInfo Portable - MajorGeeks
Put that on a flash drive.
Run the program from the flash drive and see what it says about your disk.

Other than that, wait for your drive to arrive.

    Remember that you will need
    a. a good external drive to write image files to
    b. a good drive as your 'new' system drive.

Dalchina, Yes Sir! Thank you. I will NOT use the SSD 5291. Maybe someday I'll try to wipe it clean to see if it can be used in the future. I only use SSD's and have found that Samsung are better than Crucial to clone to. Using USB 3, 465 GB takes 45 minutes to clone using Samsung SSD and 1 1/2 - 2 hours using Crucial! Currently, the Samsung 870 EVO SATA III SSD I'm using right now is good and the one I'll use when the new SSD arrives to either Clone or Image to.. I'll download and run the "CrystalDiskInfo" you recommended and record the results. I'll get back with you when I get the new Samsung SSD. Thank you for your patience.

    Dalchina,
Just wanted to touch base with you. I'm still waiting for delivery of the Samsung SSD. Seems there is a big backlog and even used ones are now selling for more than new ones used to! FYI, I ran the Crystal Disk program on this SSD (CBD5) and the program said "exe. is valid but for a machine other than the current machine". As soon as I receive the new SSD, I'll reply to this thread. Thanks for your patience.

I've never heard of that. 100s have used this program without problems.

There is a portable version available (no installation required).

I had installed the program on a flash drive. Here are the snips (attached): Macrium Reflect Update-crystaldisk-error-1.jpg Macrium Reflect Update-crystaldisk-error-2.jpg Macrium Reflect Update-crystaldisk-error-3.jpg

    Here's how:
    1. search for
    Macrium Reflect Update-2.jpg

    2. Download e.g. from the site shown on the right..
    Macrium Reflect Update-1.jpg
    to a flash drive

    3. Launch the exe file you download- it creates a folder on the flash drive as shown.

    4. Run the program from the flash drive.

Dalchina, Hello. I received the new SSD yesterday and am ready to finish this thread. This morning I ran the Crystal Disk program on the disk I'm currently using (C2B5). I also ran another Disk checking program (Disk Checkup) and another from Samsung Magician. They all show the disk I'm using (C2B5) as being in good condition and there were no indications of any bad sectors. So I assume this C2B5 disk is ok to use for either cloning or imaging. I have attached snips of these results. As for the new disk, I guess I have a choice to make. If I can start my PC from an Image, should I make an Image or do a Clone? I just want a quick way of getting my PC working again in case of a major failure. SSD looks fine - barely used.

Imaging is nearly always better than cloning although you cannot hot swap like a cloned drive but need to use a restore usb drived or similar. You can have multiple image backups at different point in times. Also images take less space than a clone.

Cereberus, Thank you for your reply. More than likely I'll do Cloning using Macrium just as I've always done because of it's being fairly quick and easy AND most importantly, of being able to do as you say "a hot swap". It only takes about an hour to do a clone which I do at least every two weeks. I've been able to use a clone I make off of my main PC on either of my other two PC's with no problems which is extremely convenient. I also think that staying with what I do know (Cloning) is better than me venturing into areas I'm not that familiar with.
