I've also had a bad experience trying to use OneDrive backup. I discovered OneDrive backup removes user folders from my hard drive and changes the location of the Documents folder, breaking six applications which rely on the existence of the Documents folder.

I apologize if my original question wasn't clear. I'm no longer trying to use OneDrive "backup". I'm only trying to use the storage space, because I'm paying for 1 TB. I'm now looking for a third-party backup program that can back up my local files to OneDrive.

    Does that make sense?

Nothing readily comes to mind... I quite understand you'd like to make use of the storage without Onedrive on your PC.

I think you could be looking at something like this

Similar to Google Drive (which assigns G drive and adds it to Windows Explorer). Then you could use a 3rd party backup program (like freeware Synchbackfree) to run scheduled backups

Alternatively, if you're just looking for a straight back up system, use an external USB drive

Here you go - lifetime giveaway:
MultCloud Premium Giveaway License Code for Free

    - but limited to 200GB total... then you'd need a license if I've read it correctly.

That covers Onedrive and other cloud services too.

idgat's idea looks the best value.

This looked promising. I mapped a network drive and started backing up to OneDrive using that drive. However, when a file is copied using this method, it loses the file dates (created and modified). I don't know if information is lost because its a network drive, or if there is a proble with OneDrive.
