Restore PC to a new disk using Macrium Reflect?

My Windows is installed in C drive in a Samsung SSD.

I have done macrium reflect incremental backup everyday.

Assuming today (18 Sept) the PC while using halfway it suddenly stuck and blue screen appear and auto restart then during starting it keeps hanging at the windows logo, can I use remove the existing Samsung SSD, plug in a new Samsung SSD then use macrium reflect to restore whole C drive backup done on 17 Sept, so that I can get back everything like the normal state just before the PC become faulty without reinstall windows? Any idea how long it takes to restore (the SSD is 250GB and contains windows and programs installed only)?

    Thank you

Hi, assuming that you've been imaging all the partitions of your O/S (typically 4 for UEFI) and any other data partitions, and you have a MR bootable disk, then you should be able to do that, assuming the problem rests with the disk and all other hardware is ok.

However I note you have another thread where you seem uncertain about your RAM:
PC stuck at windows logo and ram question

    - so I suggest you resolve any concerns about your PC hardware first.

"all the partitions of your O/S (typically 4 for UEFI)" what does the 4 for UEFI mean? Not sure what is UEFI, 4 partitions?

When I am doing macrium reflect full backup, at the [Backup] tab>[Create a backup] tab, Samsung SSD I only see 2 partitions for the SSD and I selected the whole SDD and selected the 2 partitions to backup, they are [1 - System Reserved (None) NTFS Active], [2 - (C:) NTFS Primary]

    Thank you for your reply.

Consider the grammar - all the partitions of your O/S (typically 4 for UEFI)
    4 what? 4 partitions.

    Microsoft:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...iew=windows-11
    - image shows the 4 typical partitions.

Partition manager shows mine: (Ignore the two unallocated ones)

If your PC is older, it may have a legacy BIOS. I.e. not UEFI.
    MBR installations have fewer partitions.
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...iew=windows-11

    - or fewer than the image shown.

I did this a few years ago to transfer my HD installation to my new (at the time) SSD. Worked fine.

The boot process/BCD might get confused and not work. If that happens, boot with a Macrium rescue USB. Under 'restore' is an item 'fix pc boot issues' or something like that. Just run that, and you shoulld be fine.

I do a lot of dual booting and fooling around with Linux and such, and that little feature has saved my a** many times!

This screenshot https://i.imgur.com/2zlYiaU.png shows in Macrium Reflect [Backup] tab>[Create a backup] tab, the SSD disk, I selected the whole SSD disk and selected the 2 partitions to do full backup of the SSD (correct me if I am wrong?)

This screenshot https://i.imgur.com/mpuKD4r.png shows the whole SSD inside Windows 10 [Computer Management]>[Storage]>[Disk Management], how many partitions are there?

Would I be able to successfully restore the whole windows 10 (everything on the SSD) from Macrium Reflect backup (seen in the screenshot above) to a new SSD?

My existing Samsung SSD is 250GB, I intend to buy a new Samsung SSD 500GB to restore Macrium Reflect backup on the new SSD, would it work if the size or brand of old and new SSD is different?

You would better selecting "system backup" or similar, can't remember the precise wording used in that program.

Thanks for the attempt at providing the screenshots. Unfortunately you can't have done what I showed you in my screenshot as yours don't expand when clicked on, and the best and only view I have is this- which is almost unreadable:
Restore PC to a new disk using Macrium Reflect?-1.jpg

So I'll just comment more generally.
    a. It looks (I think) as if your installation is MBR (old style) not UEFI.
    b. Macrium Reflect by default attempts to select all the partitions on the system disk necessary to restore the O/S. You can change that by using the check boxes. Here's what I see:
Restore PC to a new disk using Macrium Reflect?-1.jpg
Note the unallocated partitions are not selected. Mine is UEFI, so 4 partitions.

Assuming - is it D: ? is a partition on your system disk, I would have expected MR to show it greyed out like my unallocated partitions.

You can, of course, additionally image D: with the other partitions at the same time by selecting its check box.

If you don't, then you will need to make other arrangements to recreate D: if you wish to do so.
