Yes the icon will only show when backup is running.

Yes, the icon that only shows up when a backup is running is supposed to disappear when the backup finishes.

Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+M to bring up the "running" window with the progress bars? You should be able to bring that up and close it at will.

    (Sorry, Bastet: didn't see yours.)

The backup runs automatically on a daily schedule. So there is no "running" window. If I launch the main Macrium Reflect application, it has no idea that one of its backups is currently running.

Today while the backup was running, the ReflectMonitor.exe icon appeared in the notification area (where I quickly dragged it to the taskbar) and also at top of "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" settings (and the "switch" was turned on). When the backup completed, the icon disappeared from both places. Maybe this how it is supposed to work, but the behavior seems unusual.

    C:\Program Files\Macrium\Common\ReflectMonitor.exe
You should be able to right click on the icon in the notification area and select "Show" to display the backup progress dialogue. The keyboard shortcut CTRL+ALT+M should also work.

Thank you. I watched the backup closely today. The icon does indeed show in the notification area, but only when the backup is running. Unfortunately, it's in the "hidden icons." If I drag it onto the taskbar, it will remain there until the backup completes, then it too disappears. Windows does not remember my preference for displaying this icon on the taskbar. So the only safe way to know if a back is running or not is to check the hidden icons.

I have already been bitten once by failing to do this, and shut down my PC seven hours into a nine hour backup. The backup failed and it was not automatically retried the next day, so I had to run the full backup manually.

Yes, the icon is only there when the backup is running. On my system if I drag it out of the hidden area it remembers my preference. That's a Windows function btw not Macrium.

Would you try just once more to reset the display of Notification Tray icons, so that the "hidden" ones aren't?
Settings > Personalization > Taskbar (on the left) > scroll down to Notification area, click Select Which, and move the slider to show ALL. The only icons that will actually show are the ones representing active processes. Your Macrium icon should be unhidden and clickable during and only during a running backup.

I'm watching the backup again today. The icon appears on the taskbar, where I moved it yesterday. So Windows did remember my preference!
