My laptop USB-C is not working and still under warranty. Probably the board will get replaced with the same one. Can i use Windows Backup to restore it if the board in fact is replaced or does the image backup is tied to the original board?
Don't use Windows imaging.
MS said not to in their announcement of Windows 10 Version 1709 and have never withdrawn that warning

Macrium Reflect is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.

According to the Macrium Reflect user guide, you need to use their ReDeploy component for what you anticipate.

Didn't know Windows Backup has it final days closing because is the one i use still works, but i have never used it in this scenario were motherboard is changed even if it's the same model. I will try Macrium Reflect.
Several other users have mentioned that they still use Windows Backup for their system images.- Sometimes MS uses 'deprecated' to mean no longer working.But Windows Backup has always been a pig when restoring to different hardware.
- Sometimes MS uses 'deprecated' to mean that only security vulnerabilities will be patched in the future but functional degradations will not.
I started using Acronis TI years ago and one of its benefits was that it could cope with different hardware. But Acronis is not as popular in this forum as Macrium Reflect so help is not as easy to get.

The word 'deprecated' was first used to describe 'system image backup' when MS released 1709. The current documentation no longer uses the word 'deprecated' in the text (although oddly it still remains in the URL for this page). MS now say that ... "The features described below are no longer being actively developed, and might be removed in a future update".

I can believe that, it can be enough of a pig when restoring to the same hardware.But Windows Backup has always been a pig when restoring to different hardware.
