There are an excellent series of HyperV tutorials in this forum's tutorial section. Virtual machines are a great way of testing insider versiins for example.
One quick question. Assuming I enable Hyper-V & create a guest VM, will this be a partition that Reflect will backup?

A virtual machine essentially stores OS etc in a virtual hard drive which you can store anywhere. You are not creating a new partition. If the virtual hard drive is on a drive you have selected, Reflect will back it up.

So it was a case of concurrently running VirtualBox with Hyper-V turned on...
At least it worked... This is also getting better so it seems.

But good thing you sorted that out.

Additions will improve it, the graphics alone should give it a boost in screen 'movement'.
I finally got sound working with Intel Audio HD, once I checked enhanced audio out checkbox but the quality is awful. It is scratchy, and there seems be some bouncing/echoing.

I tried to change settings on guest and host but no joy.

I doubt I can improve on it now regrettably.

Still, Viboot and VB is usable now, thanks to your great help.

HyperV works great - I have always preferred type 1 hypervisors. Many do not realise that once HyperV is enabled, that your host OS is actually being run as a hyperV virtual machine.

Virtual box (type 2) is of course just sits on top of windows. If HyperV played nicely with Linux, I would not use VB at all.

If that is the case, I don't think it used to do that in 7.

It certainly has a new reflectbin.exe binary dated 5/30 for the recovery boot. The boot executable is also build 5145. Seems more legible to me.
Yes, V7 and earlier versions were the same, I always rebuild my rescue media whether the release notes say so or not. I alternate between two USB sticks.

I feel like I'm barging in on a conversation, but although I've heard of Hyper-V, I've never used it & know nothing about it. Is there an advantage for a single user on Win10 Pro to use it? If so, is there a a discussion where I could learn what it does?
There are other virtual machines, maybe easier to use, like VMware for instance. Access Denied
There are several flavors, I use VVMware Player as simplest one to try some mostly Linux and other compatible OSs.

I used to use VMWare Player but it went through a bad patch with the early W10 insider builds so I changed to Virtual Box and have never gone back.

Yeah, Virtual Box is another good choice, it's just so that I'm more familiar with VMware, using it for ages.

Thank you! I guess if I do decide to use it, I'll use Hyper-V, since it's faster, according to the posts above.
That might be the case technically but it won't be the easiest to use if you're new to virtual machines, IMO.

    True.

I also recommend, if you plan to try virtual machines for the first time then best guess is to begin with VMware Player, VirtualBox, then trying Hyper-V and other combinations to see the difference in options since each has its own advantages and use case.

There is also the fact that HYPER V is not available to Home editions of W10.

    Macrium Reflect question:
Will v7 still be developed / supported as Free edition?
I read that somewhere on the site.

    Guess I'll try v8 now.
Home edition sounds interesting to buy now for the new options but also as a thank you. I used v6, v7 Home for free for years and always was pleased with how it worked.
