    Win 10 Image BackUp

Currently I'm running Win 10 on a portable HDD and would like to create an image of it but when I go to "Backup and Restore" window I get the following: This feature is not available in a portable workstation environment.

Use a free backup/image/clone app such as Macrium Reflect

    I agree with Boatmaster.

And MS agree with Boatmaster - their own imaging has been 'deprecated' since Version 1709 and they recommend that we all use a third-party solution instead.

'Deprecated' means, in this case & most others, that only security-related faults get fixed [not functional ones].

So, even if you did not have that stumbling block, you ought to use a third-party solution instead.

Macrium Reflect is often recommended in this forum for making system images. Other utilities are available but this one is so commonplace that you can get plenty of help for it.

It can also make bootable system images. This facility is called viBoot and it requires Win10 Pro.

Any of the known 3rd party imaging programs should be able to do the job. Most have free versions.

If you want to be adventurous, you could even back up to a .wim. Wimlib is quicker than dism for that.
