I wound up with corrupted files some how and sfc scan or Dism command wouldn't repair them. I then went to restore with one of my backup images and the backup said it was corrupted the first time I tried to confirm it but then the second time I tried to confirm it it said it was good? Three different images I checked also, said they were corrupted the first time I confirmed but second time they said they were good too? Thanks for any input!

Also, the first image that did that went on just fine with no problems.

Hi, suggest you consider checking your backup disk. The verification check is an internal check of the image file's integrity. An outside chance is that you've had some sectors swapped by the disk's firmware, for example.

You might also consider checking your system disk while you think about it.

Note: If none of the DISM commands succeeds in correcting your system file corruption, an in-place upgrade repair install will not affect your data or programs, which can happen if you restore a partition image.

Does that mean the iso install disc I downloaded can be used for repair of just the windows files without affecting anything else? After putting the backup image back on I get good results using sfc scan now Thanks!

No doubt all is well now.

I simply offer the option for reference- and it's applicable for repairing issues not specific to a user account.
It's the same procedure as any upgrade, near enough, so does more than simply replacing system files. Tutorial available - and you need an iso file of the same build/base language/'bitness' as your installed O/S.

Good deal, I'll look the tutorial over I purchased a win 10 pro key online and used the tools to create an ISO disc of the Windows 10 OS then just used the key I purchased to activate after install so I assume I need to hang onto the disc I created? Sure is great to have such knowledgeable people to get help from Thank you very much!

An in-place upgrade repair install, like any upgrade, is started after logging in normally. Either run setup.exe from the mounted iso file, or from a bootable disk- same thing.

But after a feature update, the build changes. New iso needed.
