    Tried the right click>edit - didn't work. However, opening it directly in Notepad worked. Thank you.

    That's odd, I regularly open them that way on most PC's. I believe it didn't work on your PC, just curious why not.

    I'll have to investigate another day, almost ready to crash now. Have a great evening and I'll report back if I sort it out.

    if or when I want to stop the batch file from running, how do I do that?
    The batch file will not run unless you double-click on it. If you want to stop it while it is running, click on "X" at the top right-hand corner. If you want to end/disable/edit/delete the task created by the batch file, go to Task Scheduler. You may delete my batch file after the task has been created.

    Hi there
    why bother with that type of app any more - if there was any point ever in the first place.

    @Nisko

    for system backups just run Macrium free to image the OS -- far better than all these "restore points" especially if using 3rd party software.

    Most Windows installations are quite smallish and with compression will backup to external / other devices to around 30GB (max).

    just keep OS and programs on one HDD / partition and then on restore you don't lose any user data etc.

    The other advantage is if you want to move / copy the OS to another computer or recover the OS from a non booting computer or a broken HDD it's simple - just run the restore image from a bootable backup stand alone usb / disk.

    Macrium Free is absolutely 100% good enough for this type of stuff.

    If you are testing software etc either use a Virtual Machine or take image backup before doing the install and test - backup to SSD on typical computers these days shouldn't take more than 10 - 15 mins. If you aren't making a lot of changes anyway why would you need loads of system restore points in any case. If it's software development you are doing - surely all that would be best done on Virtual Machines first in any case.

    Cheers
