Which one's fake? Is that the one commented upon by a certain president, perhaps?

And if you're referring to Backup and Restore (Windows 7), even MS recommends using 'fake' 3rd party software in place of that.

Plus that sort of backup is imaging. It doesn't address the basic question posed.

Software can be re-installed quickly after fresh copy of windows is done & will always be best, there are so many threads in this forum about problems with your "3rd party software" backup problems not working & by the time they have finished they have to fresh re-instal which would of been quicker in the first place.

I would wait until V2004 is ready for .iso download or USB stick is quickest install method with version updates they awfull without a fresh instal this is why people have so many problems, with some of my software it knows it is a copy & makes me re-enter the serial key so from that point I make a point of saying re-instal is best to avoid corrupt copies.

Bill Gates once said "640K is more memory than anyone will ever need on a computer" - look how false that statement is now ?

The only program I have ever seen that has impressed me is the one called "Freeze Over" where every time you shut down it restores you O.S to that just installed perfect setting but unfortunately that cost alot.

What is wrong with using the windows in built back up system were you can save that file to disk, hdd, ssd without using fake 3rd party software, do it the proper way with windows tools ?

Microsoft deprecated their system imaging three years ago and specifically recommend you stop using it and turn to third-party solutions.

We recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors.

Some of us have old versions of MS Office pre-installed by the OEM. These cannot be reinstalled because the OEM key will not work with retail install media and the OEM pre-install media is not (and never has been) available to download.

Well it is depreciated, waiting for a replacement ? & is still functional otherwise it would of been removed, but it is up to anyone if you want to use backup tools instead of re-instal.

I am just stating my experience to avoid future problems & will not agree over backup programs for operating systems as it's false economy.

Microsoft Office is cheap enough to buy & often the VB Code is updated creating red text in peoples VB Code due to that code being out dated if you use it for that, I enjoy using Database VB myself.

You are free to use MS Backup software. I wish you the best of luck with it which you will need if that's your choice.

No, deprecated only means that it is no longer being developed and the only updates to it will be to counter security vulnerabilities.

Functional shortcomings are not addressed by MS for deprecated items.

And you are insisting on using a backup system that officially ceased development three years ago (in practice, probably a lot further back than that). You can't have it both ways......

RoadBlaster, for years I have been using Acronis True Image (WfW311-W98SE), Macrium Reflect and Image For Windows (W7). Any backup or restore hiccup was due to a problematic external USB HDD. The programs themselves very seldom coughed up a problem within, The only one I remember is: for just a short time, one MR7 update did not see most external HDDs, that was solved by using Windows10 1907? WinPE material. So far, no more problems.
Admittedly, I have never tried the built-in Windows 7 Backup/Restore - so I cannot comment on it directly. I have not ever run into a fake 3rd party backup/restore utility, let me know if you run across a fake 3rd party B/R utility - I will "negatively bookmark" it.
