    Restore points?

    Windows10 - v. 1909
I am now a Win10 user, and today I noticed that during an update Windows no longer makes a Restore Point before installing the Updates...?
Is this normal or is something wrong?
I checked my settings and everything is normal.

Hi I think it only does when their is a major update. Could be wrong but you can have it create restore points on a scheduleAutomatically Create System Restore Point on Schedule in Windows 10

Frankly restore points are not reliable and slow. Making incremental or differential (free version) image backups using Macrium Reflect is far more reliable.

I've used the Restore Point method for forever and never had a problem...of course that was Win7, has Win10 screwed that up too?
    Sorry, I'm new to Ten.
Since my move to Win10, my Reliability History chart looks like a war zone.

MS has abandoned SystemRestore and Backup development, since 3rd party software is better anyway.
If disc space is a concern, you can try RollbackRx, it creates a hidden partition and acts as system restore.

    - note that RollbackRX Home (free)- whilst still available, is no longer being maintained:

With this batch script you can add Create Restore Point to context menu.

Is that true? Have Microsoft definitely abandoned System Restore?...If so, it would explain a lot? Why system restore points disappear for no reason and why System Restore doesn't always work when you need it. The system restore points disappearing has been an issue for a long time now. Many forum members have posted frequently about this and it is still happening today. If it has definitely been abandoned by Microsoft and is no longer something that they maintain or support why don't they just remove it completely from Windows 10?

I'm not sure there's an official MS statement on this. If you search for
    "System Restore" deprecated

there's no apparent match to an official statement.

    See
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...3-62f0108fa424

for a comment by someone not necessarily working for MS.

The way SR is disabled after an upgrade and its inconsistent triggering with respect to system changes, and the frequent failures to complete restoring lead to the suspicion it may have been abandoned.

I set a restore point daily:

You will note these are consecutive, no losses, but equally nothing triggered by recent updates.

I have a question related to this topic. I want to delete some old Restore points. Following the tutorial at:

Manage Space for Windows Backup in Windows 10

When I get to this screen:

    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...ge_space-1.png

And click on "Manage space", I get this error message repeatedly:
    Restore points?-windows-backup-error-message.png

The error in that error message window is 0x810000F7. Cannot find much about it. Can't figure out what 'other window' they are referring to. And, as far as I can tell, it is not actually doing a backup, restore, or deletion that it refers to.

As far as I can tell, the external drive is working correctly, is accessible, doing File History backups normally, etc.

    Would appreciate any help.
