how to restore windows 10 to earlier restore point

I need to reset mt windows 10 computer to an earlier restore point. I've tried cortina but the directions for step 1 - to click on "all programs" in the left side bar - doesn't exist. I also tried searching control panel for "all programs" which offered several options, again, none of which work.

I would be eternally gratefull for any help.

To view all of the available system restore points open administrative powershell and type or copy and paste:

    1) get-computerrestorepoint

    In addition type these commands:

    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    4) chkdsk /scan

    5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

What problems are you having with the computer that there is a need to system restore?

Many times the system restore points fail or they are not available when you need them.

Once the system is again working to your satisfaction it's best to make a backup image and save the backup image to another drive or to the cloud.

These have free and pay versions depending on the desired features:
Acrois, Aoemi, EaseUS, Macrium, Paragon, etc.

Macrium is widely used in Ten Forums:

In case there is no backup image and no usable restore points other options are to:

    a) perform an in place upgrade repair (saves files, drivers, applications)

    b) reset save files or reset save files equivalent (saves files, requires re-installation of drivers and applications)

    c) reset remove files (similar to clean install) (deletes all files, requires re-installation of drivers and applications)

how to restore windows 10 to earlier restore point

    Hi,
Thanks for the speedy reply. Unfortunately, your instructions are way over my head. Not your fault but mine. I don't underdstand most of the terms. So, if you could please dumb it down.....

As to your question why do I want to do this, I got attacked by some malaware or virus and, when this has happened - last time long ago - I returned or reset (I don't know the difference) to an earlier restore point. I do apologize for my low stage of sophistication and would appreciate any help.

    Frank

    6) Which antivirus software is in use on the computer (always on and manual)?

    7) These are some antivirus scanners that you can run to see the status of malware.
For each please post images of the results into the thread.

    run as administrator

Since posting the response below, I made a small step forward but again ran into a snag. The updated request is as follows:
Thanks for the second response. Unfortunately, I ran into a new problem: how to get to powershell administrator. To do this, I need to login to my adminstrator account name and password. I found the name - owner - and found instructions on how to get the password. Then another snag: I was told to o to control panel then "manage" then "local user and groups". this last does not exist so my quest for the password came to a screeching halt.
