Create restore point not working (error)

In previous versions of Windows 10, I could create restore points by typing the related phrase then clicking the item in the Start menu.

Now I have Windows 10 Pro 1809 (17763.195) and I can still launch Create restore point via Start menu, but I get this message:

    C:\Windows\system32\SystemPropertiesProtection.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.

What's wrong? Is there a fix? TIA.

Hi, is it possible explorer has crashed since you logged on? This does cause this (just seen it).

You can see crashes in your Reliability History - Reli in the search bar- and click red X.

If so, try logging off, on and retry create restore point.
Please note: Using a S. Restore is often unsuccessful, so don't rely on this alone.

If I use, say, Win key + S, resto , click the result, I get the appropriate dialogue for S Restore.

Explorer crashing similarly breaks links to troubleshooters in Settings- but not from the Control Panel.

I shut the PC down yesterday, turned it on today and the problem is gone! Guess it was an Explorer crash as you said. Thanks again.

It's confusing the message seems so precise and problematic when in a way it's a Windows bug- and not the first thing you think of.

You can check your Reliability History to see if there has been such a crash. I'm currently trying to find what's causing mine - usually once per session for a little while now.
