Create restore point fails with VSS error in win10 upgraded from win7

I upgraded my windows7 PC to windows10 20h2 18.2.
However when trying to create restore point for system disk I am getting VSS error 0x80042306.
Following advice from MS I again upgraded PC to windows10 20h2.
Again upgrade went OK, but still same issue.
So it seems that VSS, which was working fine when this PC was in windows7, is somehow broke after upgrade to windows10.
No other backup programs are running.
Any suggestions?

Hi, you could try VSS repairs provided by
a. Macrium Reflect (free) - has a specific VSS repair option
b. Tweaking.com's free repair tool. (Only select the relevant repair)

In either case, simply search to find these.

However, there may be some other problem. Try those and advise the outcome.

Thanks for comment. I already tried to rebuild VSS as suggested by macrium. But that does not solve the issue.

Thanks again, I skimmed these articles, but I don't see that they explain my issue.
I think root cause that VSS is broke after upgrade from win7 to win10.
In win7 I had no issues making backup image with macrium.

They deal with a situation where that same error number occurs.

If the same problem occurs, it doesn't matter how it started.

You could always clean install Win 10.

Feel free to search tenforums for a situation identical to your own.

sure, will do.
But clean install is *not* an option, since I need to retain my win7.

Are you aiming to dual boot? I thought you'd already upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10..

In what way do you wish to retain Win 7?

Or are you concerned about activation and licensing?

As mentioned I have upgraded from win7 to win10 20h2.
Installing clean win10 is not an option, since I want to retain my programs and data from win7.

If you can't fix Win 10, then you can
a. Create a disk image of what you have now
b. Clean install Win 10
c. Obtain a copy of Laplink PCMover or Easeus PCtrans
and so transfer your programs and user accounts to the new installation.

Not that I also referred to Tweaking.com's repair tool above.
