this new ransom where virus well it affect just the hard drive?
like if you get this virus can you just replace the hhd and reinstall the OS and start over
and my comp is not infected. just asking

The best defence against this (or any) ransomware is to regularly back up your user data to an external drive and make regular system images, then you can restore a system image and be back where you were. You don't even need to replace the HDD, the image will overwrite everything. Most here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a reliable imaging solution.

Without an image to fall back on, deleting all partitions on the existing HDD and reinstalling windows will also erase anything nasty you may have picked up.

If you have other PC's connected to your network it's likely to effect them all
