Any folder that I simply convert to .rar using Winrar is being flagged as a virus when they're not

    Oh dear.

Windows security went through a phase of lots of false positives a couple of years ago. I hope it's not starting again.

Do you know how to add exclusions to Windows security?
Add or Remove Windows Defender Exclusions - TenForumsTutorials
    - You can add an exclusion for the file type .rar but that does expose you to exploitation, as does every exclusion.
    - I use the PowerShell given in that tutorial to backup my Exclusions and restore them to my other computers to save a bit of work. Admin permission is needed for both operations.

You can see all your Exclusions in
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Exclusions

    All the best,
    Denis

It's no longer flagging it as a virus (they fixed it?)

    Thanks.
