    Downloaded File Has No Security Tab

    G'Day,
    I have a downloaded file that I wish to rename. When I try to, it reverts back to its original name.
    I see that in the files properties, that it has had its security tab removed. Can I add the security tab to it?
    If I can, will that allow me to take ownership of the file?

    I can just delete the file as it is not important to me but when I see a problem that I have never experienced before, I wish to further my computer knowledge.

    Windows 10 Pro.

    As you have NOT had any answers, I thought I would try and help.

    For the Take Ownership of the file, have a look at this . . .

    This tutorial will show you how to add Take Ownership to the context menu of all files, folders, and drives for all users in Windows 10.

    I hope this helps.

    Is it possible that some utility or program is "using" that file? I'm just guessing in the wind...

    Greetings to theoldfarter.

    Have a look at the details tab in file properties. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see file attributes and ownership.

    This should tell you if you require to take ownership or not and if the file is saved as read-only.

    @Paul Black
    Thanks for that link.

    @RolandJS
    I ran IObit Unlocker against it, which said it was not locked.

    @W10 Tweaker
    I had deleted the file a couple of days ago as there had been no answers placed here.

    I have taken note of this thread address and when I come across another file with no security tab, I will try the things offered and report back.Thank you all.
