What's the link please for further investigation? Very good title.
I've seen those web pages, if you don't actually click yes etc, you can Ctrl Alt Del and use task manager to kill IE or Edge. Click the wrong button/box on that page though and you can get infected.
One link is here : Tech Support Scams - Help & Resource Page | Malwarebytes Unpacked but there's many more...
Hi there
Some of these infections CANNOT be fixed by merely running MALWAREBYTES or any other AV software - it will detect some malware BUT NOT ALL these days. If it shows CLEAN - you STILL won't be able to trust it if you have had one of these SCAM popup messages - the infection is STILL THERE and is undetectable by normal consumer grade AV software - Paid versions or otherwise.
Please read my post
Even Malwarebytes couldn't handle this problem - Windows 10 Forums
You probably will find the only way to correct / remove this particular nasty is to REFORMAT ALL (not just the OS HDD) the HDD's the computer is attached to and re-install CLEAN your OS.
Very irritating but these sorts of Viruses are much more sophisticated than the average level of protection provided in most - especially FREE AV software.
AV software needs to come up with a whole NEW way of dealing with these really deeply embedded type of Viruses.
DO NOT EVER THOUGH PAY RANSOMWARE. !!!! DO NOT RING NUMBER IF PHONE NR COMES UP OR SEND EMAIL IF EMAIL LINK PROVIDED.
Cheers

@MikeMecanic I don't remember, and I don't know where the link is in my history for that bad page...I tried looking but couldn't find it. Not really looking to re-discover it lol tbh with you.
I got stuck on the following site. Ud6s3i.readthis-message-alert-browserlock1947.com
I had the same issue (did not copy url). It completely locked Edge and would not clear after restart. When you clicked Edge after restart, ransomware page would appear.
Ran Malwarebytes, Defender, and AdW Cleaner none of which identified any issue. Edge was locked so could not clear temp files.
Ran CCleaner, though it took some time, and resolved the issue. Did System Restore after running CC Cleaner. Scans since were negative.
